A Semi-Hater Revisits Voyager

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Please tell me your avatar is not a picture of you.

I feel like I should be offended by this comment. You sound like you don't approve. It is a picture of me. I have nothing to hide. What's your point?

And this has what to do with the discussion of Voyager?

I can't even see you that well but why do you feel the need to have an avatar of you in a fairly provocative monochrone pose?
Its just weird frankly.

Why do you feel the need to question my avatar? You're making personal comments about me (calling me weird) in a thread about Voyager. You're hurting my feelings. :( Why do you feel the need to do that? If you have something to say about the show, then do so. If you have something to say about me or to me then do so in private. And for the record I don't think it's provocative at all. Ooh...Shoulders...How Provocative! My Grandparents have that picture hanging in their hallway.

Provocative? Weird? What the fuck? It's a beautifully photographed image (perfect lighting, interesting framing) of a bald man in a pose I interpret as reflective, melancholic and somewhat vulnerable. There's nothing whatsoever provocative or weird about it. And even if there was – why would that be a problem to you?

And why can't he wear an avatar that shows himself? That must be one of the most stupid things I have ever read on this board.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Hahaha, it was just my automatic reaction.
I just think its weird for someone's avatar on a Star Trek forum to be a picture of themself half naked, this isn't a social networking site after all, just exactly who are you trying to impress?

:wtf:

How very nice of you to insult someone without any reason. You can be proud of that. "Provocative".

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

I Remember only one thing about Rise. The Trailer, in which the miniseries Astroid was airing on NBC at the time, and this trailer made a mention of that. Of course the episode didn't really have anything to do with Astroids at the time, but hell, I find Voyager is the series in which I remember the trailers very well. I guess all the overdoing of them helped.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

^ Wow, you found Neelix bearable in rise? For me this is Neelix at his worst. And I'm a Neelix apologist, slightly anyway.
I'm surprised by it too. Neelix is strangely bearable when the episode focuses on him, but when he is just in one or two scenes an episode he is barely tolerable. He's a very unusual character. :wtf:

Oh, and like you, I have a fondness for stories set in a confined space.
The episode I would love to see was the original idea for DS9's The Ascent; Quark and Odo stuck in a room someplace while waiting for Sisko to pick them up in a runabout. That sounds like it would make a perfect episode, but sadly it was not to be. :(

And I'm one of those audience members that wanted to love Voyager. It's Star Trek. And I love Star Trek. And yet the writing of Voyager makes it very hard for me to enjoy the series. Which is why I connect with this thread. It's not about hating Voyager. It's about wanting to love it and the reasons why it's nearly impossible to do so. And that wanting to love the show has never left me...which is why the disappointment with the viewing experience still hurts.
It's the same with me, and probably most people who bash Voyager had the same experience. I didn't want to hate Voyager, I thought it was really cool at first, but it never really went anywhere. They missed so many opportunities to make this into a great show and it hasn't aged well in my memories.

You're being more leniant than I would have been, but it's just an example of the kind of things you have to put your brain through to enjoy the series. You have to say - well, they went back SOMEHOW to get that shuttle. And I can understand that. I've done that many times. And though that helps me enjoy the episodes in question...I'm never really convinced. :(
It is partly because I'm trying to be as lenient as possible, and it's partly because I'm trying to avoid moaning. When Voyager loses a fifth shuttlecraft I'm going to start deducting points for any shuttles which show up from that point on, and since some people complain about me deducting marks for TNG-style episodes I'm going to be as fair as possible so those people don't use it against me.

"Rise" almost made me slash my wrists with boredom. I really don't see how you could rate a fun romp like "Coda" below crap like "Rise".
Who cares if "Rise" had some character development, when it comes down to it it was horribly filmed and just plain boring.
I just don't understand what's going on in your mind GodBen
Few do.

I care that Rise had character development (although I wouldn't call it that because any developments made this week will probably be abandoned by the next episode). A lot of people care about character development, and you'll meet some of those people in this thread. :)

I can't even see you that well but why do you feel the need to have an avatar of you in a fairly provocative monochrone pose?
Its just weird frankly.

You're doing it again. You're calling me weird and making personal assumptions about me instead of discussing Star Trek...even after I told you that you were making me feel uncomfortable, and others pointed out that you were being insulting. You didn't even have the tact to apologise.

I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you've now gone too far and I've reported your behavior to a moderator (something I've never done before). Please refrain from making personal statements to me or about me in the future unless you wish to apologise for your actions. If however you want to discuss Trek without such personal jabs I'd be happy to discuss that, as that's why we're all here. Thank you.

Thanks for the support NCC-1701 & Dane_Whitman & GodBen. It was very much appreciated.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

If you don't want to be made uncomfortable then don't lay yourself out there for the world to see in your avatar, its as simple as that.
The internet gives you the opportunity to be anonymous, if you feel comfortable showing your identity then do but if you don't (as you clearly aren't) then be anonymous, its simple.
Report away, you're clearly much too sensitive.
Haha, this situtation is very funny, you are acting like a 5 year old child because I said I thought it was weird for you to have an avatar of yourself half naked on a Star Trek forum

Actually you are not making things better with that. :wtf:

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

^ Remember, some people are more sensitive than others. Why make someone feel bad if you don't have to?

On Rise, the episode doesn't work for me mainly because I never really liked the whole Tuvok/Neelix dynamic. Mainly because Tuvok seems to go out of his way to be a dick to Neelix and Neelix goes out of his way to annoy Tuvok. I get that they are kind of going for some kind of odd couple type thing, where they actually like each other but it just never worked for me. I don't like watching them together.

I also find the plot of the episode kind of boring. For me Coda is much more satisfying them Rise. It's kind of weird, I tend to agree with most of Godben's DS9 comments, but our tastes are very different when it comes to Voyager.

Which is why I think Rise works for me; because they actually made this ambivalent relationship the theme of the episode. For the first time Neelix is questioning Tuvok's behaviour towards him. I'm not saying they did this to my full satisfaction, but I give them props for at least trying.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

^ I see what you're saying and I do like that Neelix gets in Tuvok's face a bit about the way he is treated..but since I always felt that Neelix goes out of his way to be extra annoying to Tuvok and even to provoke him I feel that his indignation falls flat a bit.

If you keep poking a beehive with a stick, you're gonna get stung right? It is like Neelix just doesn't get that.

Where to start? Never mind, I was on my way to bed but before I go warning for flaming. Comments to pm.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

Rise (**½)
I think the combination of Tuvok and Neelix works wonderfully in this episode. I like this story because – like Fair Trade – it takes the character of Neelix a bit more seriously. Of course their scenes aren't all perfect, but both Ethan Phillips' and Tim Russ' performances helped me to esteem the notion of Neelix wanting Tuvok to respect him.

I agree. Rise is not as bad as "public opinion" says. I have always liked Neelix/Tuvok interaction and in this episode it worked pretty well. Not my favorite episode by far, but definitely watchable and even re-watchable.

Re: A Hater Revisits Voyager

I just couldn't stand the whole shuttlecrash plot set up, it was SO tired by now.
