A Scorpion Plot Deficiency

Six of Twelve

Captain
Captain
While watching this two parter again today, I was struck by something in the second part I'd not paid much attention to before.

When Seven of Nine told Chakotay to take Voyager to the nearest cube 40 light years away, he refused, saying he wouldn't endanger the ship by taking it back further into Borg space. Later, when he told Janeway about it and asked what she would have done, she said she'd have done as Seven had requested.

But why did neither of them, especially Janeway, say that the cube should have come to Voyager instead, which would have made better sense. Or why didn't the cube not just start coming to Voyager on its own, as they obviously knew where the ship was?

I understood Chakotay"s reaction better as he opposed the collaboration from the start and couldn't wait to be free of the Borg.

I understand the story reason for this, as the goal of the entire episode was to separate Seven of Nine from the Collective and keep her on Voyager, which would have been impossible with a cube nearby, but it didn't make sense so much from a "real life" point of view, as neither Chakotay, nor Janeway had it in mind at this point to prevent Seven from returning to the Borg.

I can only imagine that, from VOYAGER's perspective, having the Borg cube approach would make the cube dominant over them. In other words, it would give them some type of tactical advantage. Whereas having VOYAGER approach, instead, allows for some level of uncertainty for the Borg and gives that much of an advantage (for what it's worth) to Our Heroes.

The Cubes are much faster than Voyager. It makes much more sense for a Cube to catch up with Voyager than for Voyager to into the direction of a Cube.
