A question about Unbreakable.

I love Unbreakable, think its one of the best Superhero movies ever made. My opinion, I know not everyone thinks that...but thats okay.

I just watched it again and when his son has points the gun at him, what do you think would have happen.

I personally think that he would have been shot, there would have been some damage. He would feel the pain and agony of being shot, however it would have healed very quickly and not been life threatening.

I think by handling the scene the way they did, it still leaves the question about the extent of his powers unanswered.

I've seen that movie several times, too and I still get tense during that scene! I do agree that the question is left in the viewers' minds intentionally, then, which is a sign of good writing: Don't fell like you have to answer every question.

I recently read "The Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe" which was a very interesting what-if where Frank Castle's family gets caught in the crossfire of a superhero/supervillan duel instead of a mob shooting. The Punisher is recruited to kill all the superhumans which he proceeds to do. And at first, guns are quite sufficient to inflict trauma that they can't recover from. Cyclops, Jubilee, Spider-Man, Venom, The Incredible Hulk and Kingpin are all killed by guns before The Punisher moves on to more exotic weaponry. So as far as Marvel is concerned, it's quite easy to kill a superhero or villain if you can just get the drop on them and don't hesitate when it comes time to shoot.

As for Unbreakable, it seemed to me that Bruce Willis' character had a really good immune system. And an immune system won't stop a bullet. However he was in that big train crash and somehow survived that without a bruise or scratch on him so he obviously has some immunity to catastrophic trauma. So it could go either way.

Considering he survived a train wreck unscathed, which involes countless tons and far more energy than a single bullet, as well as a brutal car wreck, so I doubt he would have been hurt at all. Knocked back, definitely, but unscathed.

Well I can see all of those provided you can indeed get the drop on them - I'm assuming "the drop" in Hulk's case means "when he's Bruce Banner"... although how you get the drop on Spidey or Venom without additional resources beyond the gun itself is another issue, spider-sense and all (it even works in Spidey's sleep, doesn't it?).

As for the issue at hand, it would depend on whether Bruce's character is literally invulnerable (unbreakable skin) or whether he can be harmed and possesses extreme rapid healing. Either way you'd think he'd have noticed...

Spidey's Spider-Sense and superhuman agility makes it extremely difficult for him to be hit with bullets or indeed anything when he has room to move. (As a side note, my main problem with Spider-Man 3 is that it ignores this ability - Spidey just stands there and gets in to slug-fests that aren't his style at all).

Castle would, more likely, attack in a confined space and use gas.

Even getting the drop on Bruce Banner might not help - if his adrenaline surges then he will turn in to the Hulk and then it's bye bye Frank. You'd have to kill him with the first shot.

I think there was also a luck factor to David's superhero-ness. He had an extra sense when it came to impending danger. In the train wreck, I suspect that he just "happened" to be in the exact right position on the train to avoid harm. Had his son pulled the trigger, I think he would have subconsciously sensed the impending gunshot and moved aside just in time to avoid the bullet. Whatever threatens him, his body adapts to compensate. He was strong enough to manage the weights in the basement because he had to be. So, perhaps, if the shot had made contact, his body would have been automagically strong enough to prevent any damage.

He would've caught the bullet with his teeth and spat it back at the kid.

"Is that the best you can do, son?"

Then smacked the brat.

Spidey senses it all right but it's too late. He also decides to talk instead of fighting which turns out to be a big mistake. The Punisher uses tasers to subdue Venom. Apparently if the costume sloughs off, Eddie Brock is plenty vulnerable without it.

^That's a pretty huge if right there.

Whoever wrote this is either overestimating Frank's abilities or is showing Spidey a great deal of disrespect.

I wondered this as well, and personally I think that because he wasn't injured at all during the train crash, I think the bullet would have simply hit him and rebounded off.

Or even better, I the gun wouldn't have gone off at all.

I love, love, love this movie. It's probably my second favorite Willis movie, and Samuel L. Jackson should have scored an Oscar nom for it.

In order to rip a car door off like he did, his muscles would be stronger, more in amount, and more tense, and in an extreme situation like that where he might tense his muscles further, I would assume the bullet would enter, but not go very deep from the thick muscles areas. Unless, of course, he got shot in the throat or eyes.

So I pretty much agree, he'd feel the pain, bleed a little, go to the hospital, but ultimately live -- even possibly if shot in the heart (heart's got to be thicker and stronger to take the load from the extreme weights and increased blood flow).
