A question about Betazoids

I'm wildly speculating here, but there seems to be some fundamental incompatibility between Betazoid telepathy and Vulcan telepathy. (See the Voyager episode Meld.) Everyone thought Tarses was part Vulcan, not part Romulan, so perhaps Satie's assistant didn't want to do a more detailed scan because it would have been risky.

The alternate explanation is that it would have made the episode a lot less interesting.

It may be difficult for a Batazoid to read the minds of Vulcans/Romulans, even if they are 1/2 or 1/4.

There are many races that Betazoids can't read, but neither Vulcans nor Romulans have been one of them that we're aware of.

I'm not so sure about that. Troi had no clue that the Vulcan Ambassador was really a Romulan spy.

Troi only has abilities when the writer wan't her to.
What about "A Matter of Time", all the writers have Troi do is say she isn't sure about him which is clearly bullcrap since she can easily tell if someone is lying in most episodes.

Also, was it ever said that the Admiral's assistant was a full Betazoid and not 3/4, or 1/2, 1/4 or any other fraction?

All that we know is that Sabin was Betazoid. He could have been only partly that, of course. It would explain a great deal as to why he didn't simply scan Tarses himself. But we don't know for sure how 'pure' a Betazoid Sabin was. If he was anything other than full Betazoid, they never said so.

the better question is why didn't that show up in medical scans. could it be all this time he's avoided or faked medical scans?
Vulcans and Romulans are physiologically very similar. 3Human-1Vulcan hybrids and 3Human-1Romulan hybrids presumably are four times more similar than Vulcans and Romulans. The difference is probably subtle enough that you won’t find it unless you’re looking for it.

They probably don’t look for it routinely, because there is no law against people of 25% Romulan blood serving in Starfleet. (Saavik was 50% Romulan and served openly in Starfleet.) Tarses lied on his application in an attempt to avoid the prejudice and suspicion with which Romulans are typically regarded, not because the truth would have kept him out of Starfleet, but because the truth would have made his life in Starfleet a lot more difficult.

I still say Tarses didn't lie. Either that, or the admissions policy is bogus, with Starfleet giving a crap what race (as opposed to species) you are. Did Sisko have to check "black" on his form?:wtf:

At any rate, isn't Betazoid telepathy largely intraspecies, with linguistic communication possible only in some special cases (imzadis and such) where the "protocol" or "language" of the other person's cognitive processes has been thoroughly learned?
