Yeah, an apostrophe is used to indicate possesion (only in English; not in German that is) or replace an omitted letter. The semicolon on the other hand is just another way to divide parts of a sentence. Normally I don't get them mixed up. English and German were my specialised courses in my Abitur actually. So this was just a minor mistake on my part. Didn't know it would be such a big deal. I wonder how some Klugscheißer-posters would fare in writing a correct German sentence though.
