A more conservative update to the TOS Enterprise

Original links broken. SEE UPDATES IN POST #28.

I know I posted an earlier version of this in my TMP Enterprise thread, but to avoid cluttering that one with two series of designs, I'll post the latest version of this here.

Nicely done! I'm liking some of the updates, while enjoying the overall feel. Very good work!

I was definitely inspired by the James Webb telescope for that deflector dish.

Good.

That pattern is what I would like to see in the two “dead” areas to either side of the refit dish on the Alaska class battlecruiser. But as missile ports.

I think Atolm is looking at that.

Back on topic— this is wonderful.

As long as the size is not inflated.

Nacelles by DeSoto.

My one questions is: If you are going with the hexagon dish why have a stem on the beast? Make it flush with the hull. Are the panels adjustable? That is the point with the Webb and the W. M. Keck Observatory

I have no idea what any of this means.

I don't really care about the function. It's the look that inspired me.

Very nice design. Very nice.

I still have an issue with making the ship so large. And in light of the 947 length being now canon thanks to Discovery...

947? What is that? Feet? Ha! I use metric! :)

I didn't enlarge it because I wanted to. It's exactly as big as it needs to be to have two full decks in the saucer rim (with a bit of extra for shielding systems, etc.). In my opinion, the size given for the original Enterprise dates back to when the model was constructed with a single deck in the saucer, and was never updated.*

Enterprise needs to be at least about 400m for those two decks, assuming 3 meters (10 feet) floor-to-floor. Discovery has it at about 450m, which makes my 464 quite reasonable.

*: I did a test cutaway at some point with two decks at the "official" (though never mentioned on screen) size, and I had no choice but to make the saucer rim decks shorter. It just doesn't fit there, especially taking the sets we see in TOS into consideration.
