A Monday Puzzler: "Beloved Aunt"

I think both numbers, once run through an intricate series of arithmetic equations, both equal 47.

Yeah. That's it.

Ah, you of course refer to Burns's 9th Law, where anything equals anything else given adequate funding. :guffaw:

EDIT @1606 - we have another one with the correct answer: this time it's Jadzia. Congratulations! :)

I'm too stunned at seeing Jim Gamma to even try to figure it out. ["Excuses, excuses, you mathematical dimwit." - Ghost of Albert Einstein]

*waves* Yes, I lurk. :p

Now go SOLVE IT! Should be REALLY obvious. ;)

Right... here's a hint...

Do you notice anything about the sequence of numbers in both cases? Something that looks odd? :) (I looked at the end of the line, and immediately realised something.)

Oh, son of a bitch! I'd figured out all the clues already, but I only just realized the proper way to apply them.

And you've applied them well, David cgc. Another correct answer! :)

Today I've been planning what might be the next question for next week. It's... different. ;)

If anyone does want another hint, PM me and I'll tell you what triggered the thought process that made things click for me. I don't want to post it in the thread because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who's trying to work on their own.

It's not going to give away the answer, but it's what made me go "hmm..." when I was just staring at a group of random numbers thinking "what the..."

*sigh*

Feck it. Feck it. Feck it.

Brain not work proper lateral thinky no work. Dur.

Good to see you. You should stop by the Kellyz Forum at Terran. :)

I am now about to take another look at the puzzle, utilizing your advice....

Yes, that's enough "little hints" thank you very much.

Well, seeing as the penny's finally dropping, I might reveal the solution soon. :bolian:

I still have no clue.

Thanks to said hints I now know how to solve it. Unfortunately, there is a very practical reason why I can't, even though I know how...

And it also explains why I had trouble with the puzzle in the first place.

:D
