Saddened by this news as well. He added a great deal to the trek community as a whole.

I had this idea--that if I ever won the lottery, that I would pay off the mortgages of folks like him--like Thomas Sasser, etc.
And they'd never have to worry about a day-job ever again. All they would do is be creative (and maybe do designs for me.)

Oh wow just read this. 
It's an odd occasion that a man's death is noted in an online forum. I suspect that my own passing, and that of many other users here and elsewhere, could go unknown - a difference being made only when others wonder about why someone suddenly stopped responding. A digital obituary is a rare honour.
Such sad news. Vance/Neale was a great guy, and incredibly creative.
I'm glad he allowed me to share his numerous schematics on my site.

Probably a but late to comment, but wait, Vance is dead?! I guess I read something about it (something about "in memory of" but never really looked into it.
I highly admired his work. He will be missed.
Oh, and 2016? Go fuck yourself. This has just been a horrible year, and I have no hope for the next, just the will to fight against all odds to make it better.
