A little ship I'm playing with at work.

Looks nice. Of course, being an IT wonk, I like three-letter acronyms. This ship is a "Planetary Emergency Response Vehicle" -- or PERV. :D

Again, nice design. Kinda looks like a giant Phaser I. ;)

Let's hope it's not a SCSI PERV! This comment brought to you by another IT drone.
Seriously though, I like this ship. It's a nice departure from the usuall Federation design ethic.

Heh--- Thanks for pointing out my state of mind ;)

Here is a rough draft of what I'm going for... Just whipped this up to see where I want to go with it.

I'm thinking of adding identifiers that keep it looking federation, but also emergency vehicle... Nothing too bold though.

So imagine some idiot klingon like Klaa says, let's go pilage this federation colony. He decloaks and up comes 10 of these guys, each carrying say 20 photorps, plus their phasers. All M/AR power devoted to weapons and speed. Because after unloading, a quick trip back to base for reloading while 10 more take their place. That BoP wouldn't come close to standing a chance.

No need for sleeping quarters or recreation on these ships. Their all busy. End of shift or patrol (say 8 hours), they go home for the day and the next shift crew takes the ship on patrol- or standby...

Coupled with starbase defenses (say automated systems- satelites- whatever), that would be why the Federation is attacked every other day.

Any thoughts?

Nice lil ship there :) :techman:

and a good replacement for a Federation Class's third warp nacelle if it could be attached that way :)

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm thinking these ships have to be close to bases because of their need for refueling/ arming. There has to be limitations to these ships or they'd be too powerful and could be deployed as fighter wings on starships.

So what limitations other then fuel/ arming would ensure these are close to starbases/ colonies/ solar systems?

Not a monitor, but...in sfb it might be called an impulse only Fast Patrol ship--. Police ship might be a good name...

To save space/mass for better weapons and defense systems while allowing very agile manueverability, these little ships have next to nothing in the way of sensors, or the computational power to rapidly and reliably analyze sensor data if they had them. This makes them heavily dependent on sensor data from the sort of sensor satellite network that can usually be found deployed in friendly inhabited systems.

Low Warp speed? :)
The lowest- No warp speed. ;)

Perhaps a ship used by various levels of emergency and starfleet services, including paramilitary policing bodies.

Maybe they though they can work independent of each other in short range situations, in larger engagements they would make use of a "mother" ship coordinating everything.

HA! Movie references....

but honestly it looks smaller than a Oberth or a Jackill's Lynch class ship Saucer section :)

I like! Though, 4 torp tubes seems like overkill for a ship of this size. Not that I can talk, I have a habit of assigning 6 forward torp tubes on movie era light cruisers. But, that's just me.

Just a thought...are there any docking hardpoints for (in future) possible additions of warp-sleds, workbee style utility grafts, temporary cargo modules, rollbar modules a-la the Miranda-Class, etc.

I get what you're saying. My take on the ship is that on it's own, it's pretty useless. They only function in numbers. The ships fire a smaller lower yield PHOTORP. The point of having 2 fore and 2 aft is to allow for variability when defending in high numbers against an agressor.

The positives. So they have quite a few photorps. PHASERs. The power to arm them. And quick agile speed, perfect for intra solar system battles. They batttle in numbers. Quick to re-arm/ refuel.

The down side, is they have to re-arm frequently. No warp (though not an operational requirement for this type of vessel). Minimal shield power supplemented by emergeny beam outs. Vaulnerable in small numbers.

That's something to consider. It's a small ship, so we're limited... Let's see.
