^ Well, I've seen Firefly now too.

Buffy is better. :p

I have to agree with you Vash. While I absolutely love Firefly, and I do think that Firefly's 14 eps were better then Buffy's first 14 eps, overall Buffy is still a better show.

^ Yeah, BigFoot. I agree with that.

I'm not saying I didn't *like* Firefly, cus I did. I think the show had alot of potential and a few of the episodes were VERY promising.

But truthfully, I think it's overrated in the SFF forum. ;)

I mean, seems like in there you can't even say you like Buffy better anymore. It's ALL about Firefly. But the thing is, Buffy had seven SEASONS. We have no real idea what Firefly would have been like, in the long run.

I mean, it's like coming back from a perfect honeymoon and declaring that your marriage is better than your grandparents, who have been married for 50 years. :p Sure, your grandparents had their ups and downs - their bad "episodes". But you don't even have a basis for real comparison, as a newlywed. You are barely past the honeymoon, for cryin' out loud!

*THAT* is what I don't understand about all this Firefly-mania.

Sure...it had some very good points. The dialogue was very good - about the same sense of humor as in Buffy, so I appreciate that. I liked the premise, and the actors were good too. But already, a couple of the characters were *really* starting to get on my last nerve. And the premise, while good, is not really going anywhere as a arc. Or at least it isn't YET.

So - is Firefly worth watching? Yes, absolutely. Did it have alot of potential? Yes as well. Would I watch it if it came back on TV after the movie? Yes again.

But better than Buffy????

Nope.....not yet, anyway. ;)

^ I'm just curious about something Vash. You keep saying how some of the characters were starting to annoy you. I'd like to know which characters you're referring to. :)

River is about to put me over the edge, for one. Mal needs to put her off the boat. :p

Enough screaming and gibberish already! We get it! You're nuts! Now go si'down. :p

And Simon is a weenie, so I don't like him either. If he wasn't the doctor, he could be put off the boat too.

I'm not gonna get into the whole debate about Firefly better than Buffy, cause you're right; we only get 14 eps of Firefly. Still, those 14 grabbed my attention much more than Buffy ever did. Eh, different strokes :D

They do get mighty Firefly-happy on SFF, don't they? Usually, there's so many comments by the time I read a thread that what I would've said has been said plenty times over. So I just read & move on. Nice to see all the love though

Nah, you don't get it. She's not nuts, she just... feels more. Yeah ;)

Yeah I can see how the Tams would annoy some people. Interestingly enough, I know a lot of folks who's fav character is actually River. :)

^ I'm not quite sure. While Kaylee is my g/f's fav character (she loves Jewel), River is actually her second favourite. Why? Well, she likes her...lol, that's all there is to it. And I have to say I like her to. The crazy bit might have been overdone sometimes a bit, but not much. And she does have a lot of good scenes and lines, like "I can kill you with my brain". :)

 I remember that line, actually. That one was pretty good, I'll give her that.

I don't know...I think the only characters that I *really* love are Mal, Zoe and Inara. I like Kaylee and Book alot as well. Jayne and Wash are kinda take 'em or leave 'em...and Simon and River....well....like I said: they can be put off the boat at any time, as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, I'd never post this in the SFF forum. Prolly get run out of town for saying it.

I mean, it's a pretty good show and all - had alot of potential and I'm thrilled that it is getting another chance. But IMO, it is NOT as good as I thought it would be from reading the SFF forum. :p

:) Well I have to say that Mal is by far my favourite character. He is just...awesome. :D But honestly, I love all of the crew and a couple of the reaccurring characters, especially JoSaffBridge. :D

^ Yeah...Mal is for sure the best. Some of his lines are SOOOOO Joss. Plus, I like his attitude. Really, he's the best written (and acted) character on the show. At least IMO.

Off topic to our Firefly discussion, but I'd just like to vent a bit about poll options in GTD.

Some of these guys running polls must work for the same folks who "forget" Sisko in Captain's polls.

That is all I have to say.

Carry on.

^ I take it you're referring to (amongst other things, I haven't been to GTD since yesterday morning) to the Strongest Race poll and the fact that whoever posted it left off The Dominion? Yeah, it pisses me off aswell. It's quite annoying, but hey, not much we can do about it hey? Except beat him/her on the head with a trout. :D

Nah, we wouldn't run you out of town. :p I think a lot of what Firefly has going for it is that the fans won! We're getting a movie! They're putting fans in the film as extras - we've got 6 confirmed so far!

There's a lot of excitement right now. Filming is going on, and the actors actually communicate with the fans. We've heard from Nathan, Jewel, and Adam already - in fact, Adam's quite the regular in the political threads on the Official Board. For once, fans are getting attention and respect from the people involved in the creative process. So we're all going a little nuts right now.

And then, about once a week, someone new tries the series and has to post about it. The DVDs are so reasonably priced that people don't see it as too much of a risk. And when a newbie sees it for the first time, we all kinda relive our first viewing vicariously. :p It's a sickness.

I guess I can understand someone not liking Simon and River, although to me, they were the two most interesting characters. If I had to pick my least favorite, it would either be Book or Inara. But I think even they would improve once we knew their secrets. ;)

But guys, don't feel you're not welcome in the Firefly threads just because it's not your favorite show. Some of us gush too much, yeah, but there are others who are quick to say they hated it or were indifferent to it.

NOW, if you went over to the Official Board, that might be another story! There are so many drooling fangirls over there it's unbelievable! But they're cute in their goofy way. ;)

Sakrysta, I hear what you are saying about fans feeling they "won" becasue they got a movie. However, the Firefly fans are not the first ones in recent history to achieve this. ;) We Farscape fans worked long and hard for our mini-series. And although it's not a season 5 of the show or anything, at least we will get a decent ending.

The thing that REALLY sucked about the Farscape cancellation was that after four years of watching this show, the fans were left hanging on a HUGE cliffhanger. It was horrible...and made me, for one, feel really ripped off by the Scifi Channel. I mean, I invested four YEARS in that show! And it ends like THAT????

I was VERY upset...and alot of other folks were too. I was by no means anywhere near the most active fan involved in the protest...but I did send off letters to everyone at every address I could find at the Scifi Channel. And I sent a ton of emails too, and called them on the phone twice. Other fans went way beyond that - sending in thousands of dollars for the ad campaign to get Farscape back. Several of the actors were quite involved as well - particularly Ben Browder.

It was a hard road, but after several months, we finally got a mini-series. And I'm really grateful for that. At least Farscape will get the ending it deserves.

So I know how you guys feel about getting a movie. ;)

As for criticism being accepted in the SFF forum, I really don't see it. I casually mentioned in a very polite way the other day essentially what I said here - that it was a good show with alot of potential, but not, IMO, "crazy-good" *yet*- and was called a "heretic" by one poster, and completely blown off by everyone else, like I was some sort of low-grade troll or something. I got the message, loud and clear, that they don't wanna hear anything but gushing in those threads, so I think I'll skip them from now on, thanks. ;) Cus no WAY will I ever call a show that ran a measely 14 episodes "the best show EVER", which seems to be what a few folks over there expect everyone to concede. :(

Sorry...but after 14 episodes, the show is still on it's honeymoon. We won't know if it's a good marriage or not for a long time. ;)

Farscape is to me as Firefly is to you, I guess. ;) I really enjoy Farscape, but I didn't follow it for four years, and while I dig the show and am happy we're getting a mini, I guess I just didn't feel as "cheated" by the cancellation as most of the fans.

Well, I'm sorry if someone treated you badly. But frankly, I wouldn't let a couple people keep me from expressing my opinion. Just because no one agreed with you doesn't make your opinion any less valid.

Later...

I got curious and did a search, because I read ALL the Firefly threads, little obssesed Browncoat that I am. Only one person called you a "heretic," and frankly, I took it as a joke. He's just started the series and is proclaiming it loud and clear wherever he goes. No one else made one negative comment toward you in that thread, another supported your position, and many made the exact same suggestion you did. Frankly, I would have suggested the guy buy Stargate too since it was on sale, but by the time I got to the thread, he'd already made his decision.

The next oldest thread one person brought up a counter to your claim that 14 episodes wasn't enough to make a series great. He wasn't rude about it at all, merely started a discussion on that point. Or rather tried to - no one ever responded to his point.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, truly. I just don't understand why you feel people think you're a "low-grade troll" and are "blowing you off." Because I just haven't seen that. There are several other posters who dislike Firefly and are rather vocal about it, and yet the discussions all stay civil.

I just don't want you to think that you're not welcome in SFF because Firefly has somehow taken over the forum. It's one of the reasons I've tried to keep all the movie news & stuff in the countdown thread. I know we're getting annoying, so I figured I'd try to corral all the annoyance in one thread.

*hugs*

^ Well, as I said in my earlier post...most folks completely ignored me altogether. Like if I don't want to gush, I'm not worthy of responding to at all and am excluded from the club. And I didn't see any smilies in that one rather rude post indicating it was a joke. Just alot of "" smilies.

So yeah...I pretty much took that to mean that "Only gushers need apply". No biggie though. I just won't post in those threads anymore. I have alot to post about with B5, Farscape, Stargate SG-1 and Buffy anyway. :)
