a JEDI question

I still think he should have gone with his original idea and had Obi-Wan be Luke's father, instead of Vader. It would have made more sense. But we can't have that in Star Wars.

Because I find the idea of trying to make a spoiled brat/genocidal maniac into a sympathetic Christ-figure utterly revolting.

I always assumed she died from complications of having her windpipe crushed by her husband.

That's how she should have died.

What can I say, I don't trust those robot doctors. They probably thought she was from some species where the inside of her neck was supposed to look like that.

Also..star wars fans...at the end of the 'remastered' RETURN OF THE JEDI, is that Hayden standing there at the end with OBE WAN and Yoda? Or was it some look alike?
Rob

in the original revamped release (you probably got that one on vhs) the anakin at the end was an older man, greying hair etc.

but in the post eps 1-3 releases (you probably got this version on dvd) it is in fact Hayden

i had to go back to the vhs myself to see the first time i saw it there

I'm not sure if the Emperor ever said he foresaw Luke's involvement. In ESB he tells Vader that the son of Skywalker must be turned or destroyed, but he doesn't say he saw that. I take it that Luke was a big surprise to both of them in ANH and after doing some digging or searching the Force, Palpatine arrived at the answer. The Emperor also said he foresaw the stuff in ROTJ, but if he truly had seen how things would turn out for him I don't think he would've made the trip. As Yoda said, always in motion the future is. I wonder if Palpatine saw impressions of the future but not it spelled out to him, bits and pieces like Anakin did regarding Padme.

Unfortunately, Hayden is placed at the end of the new ROTJ, a stupid way to try to link him to the originals. And they have him looking creepy, not happy. I agree that it was disrespectful to the original actor who played Anakin. I would've liked it if maybe they had shown the original Ben, Yoda, and Anakin at first and then de-aged them to look like the prequel versions. But just keeping Alec Guiness and changing Sebastian Shaw was lame.

I always thought that Luke was seeing the Jedi that his father would have been at the end of Jedi. Changing that to whiny, emo Anakin ruins that completely.

I always saw it as Anakin being set free. The real Anakin was trapped inside Vader for decades (the whole, there's still good in him, I can feel it angle), and only started to resurfaced once Luke came into the picture.

i was never sure the Emp actually knew of his existence, but then after the prequels came out, and we learned more about him i came to the conclusion that he most likely DID know about both Luke and Lea. the Emp's whole "bag" was deception, infiltration, and co-ersion. the point at which the twins were born, was indeed a very chaotic time for the rebels. and considering just who's ship that was where they were born: i'm sure that the emporer had at least ONE spy among the crew. it would have just been part of his "business as usual" to have seen to just such a thing.

relies heavily on conjecture, but possible!

"Now open your mouth and lets have a look at that brain."

A friend of mine, who is a big time STAR WARS fan, says that the books make it clear that the Emperior knew all along she had those kids, and who the father was.

Probably going to get hell from the EUist, but relying on novels or novelizations to fill in the plot holes in a story is, IMO, a symptom of a weak writing.

Instead of the whole "lost the will to live" bullshit, they could have just said "we didn't get to her in time" or "the damage is to severe, but we can save the babies".

Oh, I agree. He and I have been locked in the STAR WARS / STAR TREK battle for years....

I think there's been so much retconning on the part of Lucas (his prerogative I suppose, but whatever) that it's hard to really judge what the Emperor did/did not know and when.
