A great conjunction comes...

... even if it has nothing to do with "The dark Crystal."

I kept meaning to post this but kept forgetting to. Tonight there will be a conjunction that many folks ought to be able to witness, even from within the city lights. After sunset this evening, look to the southwest sky. Jupiter, Venus and the Moon will from a beautiful display, bright enough to be observed from many locations even urban ones.

The moon will be in a waning crescent phase, and the planets will easily outshine everything else in the night sky.

Saw that last night. Quite spectacular and well worth a look. :bolian:

< My av can act as a preview. :D

I figured that's what inspired your av.

I dragged everyone outside Friday evening to see the conjunction, and actually... they enjoyed it quite a bit. Having the three brightest objects of the night sky can have that effect on folks.

I've been watching the planets come closer together for days now. Could barely see it tonight (cloud cover,) but saw it last night and it was pretty cool.

Today's APOD has a nicely composed picture of the event: Link.

And Deimos Anomaly took a very nice photo: here.
