A feminist review of 'The Incredibles'

Wasn't one of the promo taglines for TI Helen saying : "Leave saving the world to the men? I-Don't Think So!"

I kept looking for it in the film itself. I mean, Helen was the grown-up, Bob the dreamer. I think depicting the woman as the grown-up w/o 'Raymondizing' Bob showed true echoes of feminist thought. It falls to her to explain to the kids the difference between Saturday Morning villains and the killers they might be facing.

Helen is a strong character. Period.

I don't think us sitting here on a Star Trek message board is going to do anything to help this.

The comment facility on the website in question is moderated and they specifically state that they will not accept comments critical of their point of view. In other words, just like so many feminists, they are not listening. They have a fixed view of the world and they are not interested in what anyone else thinks no matter how ignorant their opinions are.

I have said it before and I will say it again, feminism has ceased to be about equality and it will never, ever go back.

The 'rape' thing requires some elaboration: her definition of rape (as explained in the comments section) is the "radical feminist" definition, which is that since men are dominant, any attempt by men to initiate sex is rape, because women can't consent under those conditions.
Oh, Jesus Christ! :wtf:

This reminds me of a lady who called a radio talk show and criticized the show's target audience. And she actually used the following as putdowns on said audience -- they come from two-parent homes, go to church and own businesses.

I am betting that these examples of feminists - meaning the author of those articles, most of its the respondents and whoever prohibits any dissension - are extremists at best. I wouldn't paint all of them with the same brush, the same way I wouldn't label all fans of a particular TV show identically.

The Incredibles I felt came off more than positively. It showed Helen in a very strong light as has already been alluded. That was in a promo, but it's also on the DVD as well. If anything, Bob comes off critically given the way he's treated.

Meh ... I'm usually interested in hearong what other people have to say on such matters. But when their works come off this prejudiced and they prevent any kind of disagreement ... well, it reminds me more of Languatron. And that just makes me laugh.

If The Incredibles was anything beyond a loving tribute to silver-age comic books it had a message about not conforming just for the sake of conformity and living your life to its full potential.

This all reminds me of a Freudian analysis of The Hobbit I read once... *shudder*

Yet more leftist liberal whining of "Pity me and my situation! I'm a victim! I'm not being catered to enough by every single facet of society, which I will believe cares about me only if it completely changes to resemble me! Blah blah blah!"

I'm sick of this attitude among some in the gay community (and in other communities as well)

If you don't like it, you have three options:

A) don't go see the fucking movie

B) get into film and make a film you want to see

C) get over yourself and shut up

\S/

Good grief, the Incredibles review was bad enough, but the Firefly/Serenity review was just bat-shit crazy. Guess I'm a rapist.

soory, what? if a guy initiate's sex, he's a rapist even if the woman consents? :cardie:

why? what? how? HUH?!

can someone, anyone, explain that to me?

It's their way of instituting the matriarchy they all want. Nobody gets to have sex anymore, and since women live longer than men the last people left alive will all be women.

Until they die and the human race ends, that is.

Their premise is that in a patriarchal society, any expression of interest from men is pressure, which is coercion, which is rape.

Surely this is just saying that all women are too weak to say no ? Of course, that's a load of crap too.

Edit - I've been reading this person's LJ. Every time someone, even other feminists, call her on this crap she replies with this:

This post was about Joss Whedon, Firefly and misogyny. Please address the topic. If you have a problem with the Radical Feminist view of rape then make a post on your own blog argueing against Andrea Dworkin, Catharine MacKinnon and Robin Morgan. This is a Radical Feminist space and as such I support the Radical Feminist definition of rape.

She knows her arguments don't hold water so she just shouts "La La La I'm not listening!" at anyone who disagrees. One of her critics was a woman who actually had been raped and she pulled the same stunt!

rrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiight...

like Hermiod says, that view would seem to construe that women are all weak and feeble and incapable of saying 'no'. which surely is not what they're trying to imply, beside being utter BS...

What a fucking bitch. My sister was raped. For real not this bullshit streaming from this piece of crap's mouth. This "woman" is pissing me off.

Well summarized, CC.

Hoist on her own Picard, though, so to speak: Were she to successfully implement the matriarchal society she so desperately craves, any expression of interest from a woman for a man would be pressure, which is coercion, which is rape.

Either way, it's gon' be a short-lived civilization.

The author is a lesbian ("lesbian separatist"), so het-sex is of little concern to her.
