A feminist review of 'The Incredibles'

^ There does seem to be a sizeable portion of the population that can't tell the difference between actual feminism and vapid 'grrl-power'-type fare. Like we saw recently in politics, just because it has a vagina don't make it feminist.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I honestly don't think there's any agenda at all behind Sex & the City. I don't think it was ever meant to be instructive. The characters seem to simply contain various personality traits without any additional meaning or value judgments attached to them.

For purely mysogonistic fare, I am surprised the radical feminists missed a movie like 'Super Bad' which coomits far more many sins towards women.

The fact that Superbad even offended ME should say something. I'm not one to easily take offense at movies. However, I didn't at all care for this movie, mostly because Jonah Hill's pathetic search for booze & pussy did not contain a single redeeming feature. The character is complete garbage as a human being. I would have walked out after 10 minutes had the other guy not been the one with the car. (I don't think he liked the movie either but he just wasn't willing to walk out.)

You were at a multiplex, so you could just have switched movies by going to a different theater.;)

Just recently, I tried to respond to a feminist blogger (the same lady who accused Joss Whedon of being a rapist.) This is what I intended to say:

'Your dastardly plan' is full of shit, and if I could inform the Australian authorities about the slander that you've printed here, your ass would be in a lot of trouble, lady. You were told on your other blog that this is slander, and that you can be sued for it, and yet you persist in going ahead with your inaccurate bollocks that you've been typing here. You might think that you're cool, but lady, you're NOT cool, and neither is this stupidness that you're writing about Mr. Whedon It seems to me that you have issues, and that you need to deal with them instead of printing angry slanderous rants against a writer and their universe full of imperfect human beings.

You think that Whedon's depiction of women is horrendous? Try reading the first book of Karen Miller's Empress trilogy; she has the female protagonist sold into slavery, and upon being so, her new owner plunges his hand between her legs to make sure her virtue is intact. That is more nasty and horrible than anything the women on Firefly are being subjected to. And a woman wrote it too. There are probably lots of novels with similar scenes written by women writers; how come you're not issuing slanderous brickbats at them? (BTW, the protagonist eventually works her way up into a position of power, presumably to kick ass of those who wronged her.)

If you think that you can do better, please try writing your own story about a female heroine, submit it, get it produced, and then come back and tell us about how it all went down. Otherwise, please find something in the world to occupy your time besides slandering successful people that write books/plays/movie/TV shows that you can't stand. Remember, this is not a perfect world, and there are no perfect people-male, or female.
I said intended, because as soon as I hit the submit key, I got a white scree of death and the word 'DISCARDED' in the top left-hand corner. Typical behavior when a lady like her doesn't want to hear your opinion.

What is with this thread ? It is the ultimate in zombie threads!!! How many times has it come back to life now ?

Sorry. Just wanted to wrap up.:vulcan:

Hey, no problem, it's an interesting subject, it's just that it keeps coming back to life. :)

I do find her comment about Joss rather ridiculous, Joss has made a career out of writing strong female characters, often to the detriment of his male ones.
