hey guys,
went to see the new trek in Imax glory and Friday and thank Mr. Abrams for delivering on a tall order. He really has succeeded in producing a Star Trek for everyone and making it cool and fresh again. I also like the fact the the writers have stated that they would go the time travel route one last time in order to start the alternate timeline (since time travel's been done to death on ST) and that they used a non-artificial way to bring it about (as opposed to it coming from the characters abilities meaning they could do it at any time).
That being said, we know that there was much that was left on the cutting room floor. I know that makes the movie very fast paced, which is not a bad thing. However, Mr Peter Jackson revolutionized, in my opinion, the standard DVD movie release with his extended versions of Lord of the Rings. Although absurdly long, the footage deserves to be seen and makes for a longer experience that is perfect for the home theater context.
I am therefore pleading anyone listening with any kind of say in the matter to please give us a standard and extended cut DVD of this film. 6 1/2 years after the last movie and 4 years after the last Enterprise episode, the opening weekend numbers prove that interest has been rekindled. A longer cut of this movie would please existing and new fans alike, providing even more back story for characters we've known for a long time or are juste discovering. It would also be a way for paramount to make a few extra bucks that would insure another turn by Kirk & co. in the near future.
If you feel this idea has any merit, please pass it along and petition for it as much as you can. I'm hoping we get heard because I would be thrilled to see a 150 minute version of this movie...
May Star Trek live long and prosper!
