A Different Voyager?

I like the U.S.S. Prototype a lot (the ship, not the name). How about Tesla for the class name? Do you have shots from other angles?

I was just breezing through this when I realized I had done something similar some months back. I had attempted a little voyager redesign (NOT a refit) based on some similar shape psychology.

At least, that's what it STARTED as. Then I went to wackyland with lens flares and glowing blue stuff and... well, I apparently ended up with something called the "USS Prototype." Boy, do I know how to name 'em.

Here's the image. Have at it!

I suppose there's some constitution in there, as well as a little reliant. Hm... Now that I look at it I think I like the shorter nacelles better. And what was I thinking with that cut in the saucer (aft of the bridge)? Oy vey.

Cheers!
-Moe.

Now thats a fine Vessel :) :techman:

I also think the Intrepid-Class is pretty much perfect as-is. The only things I would change, is not to have the warp engines move... to me that always made it more like a Transformer, and less like a ship, and I would not have it able to land... when you have transporters and shuttles, there's no need for the ship to land.

It is perfect as is and that is all there is to it. It's one of the best designed ships in Trek with the Galaxy at the top of the list. It looks good from just about every angle and it's functional aswell as revolutionary and it fits with impossible perfection into the 24th century unlike the Sovereign or Akira or Prometheus which are nothing more than art projects.

While I realize this would have made more work for the effects crew, I would have like to have seen the variable geometry engines actually have variable geometry. All we ever got to see was all the way up or all the way down. It would have been interesting to see different alignments for different speeds and spatial conditions.

Having said that, ever since I first saw her engines rotate upwards I've had an image in my head I've never been able to get rid of fully: Voyager darting forward, backward, and hovering, with her nacelles whirring away like a hummingbird's wings. With the layout of her hull and engines, that's what she always reminds me of.

Indeed. Though I understand the real-world reasons, having them only have the "on and off" positions implies that they should have just been built in the "on" position like every other starship.

But perhaps it's critical to have them in motion during the initial creation of the warp field as part of circumventing the "environmental" damage created in TNG.

I don't think Voyager looks like a Penis and testicles and only people that are particularly lude minded...meaning they inundate their mind with such material and then see those shapes every where ye goes.

Sorry, I don't.

^ Really not a fan of the movie, but that visual Intrepid class reference always cracks me up

Or people with no sense of humor.

In his defense, he probably just replied without actually knowing what you were talking about.

Never liked that ship. I liked the idea of that ship - fast, manuverable, state-of-the-art tech, etc. But the design doesn't seem to match its purpose. It always reminded me of some weird ungainly sea creature.

Well that was certainly true.
I would describe the pictures of the ship he's talking about as...an unfortunant direction and similarity to Intrepid.

I'm just not crude with humor.

But that's the point. There's a reason why Voyager was chosen as the template for their ship, and it's not because it's the "best designed" vessel.

I'm just not crude with humor.

There's a world of difference between crudeness and parody, and if you knew what (T)Raumschiff was about instead of just basing your opinion on the design of the ship, you'd see that difference.
