A couple of Spock sculpts

Beautiful work.

I'd love to see Picard :) *nudge* *nudge*

Keep it up, you have quite a talent here.

I think we all keep saying the same thing because you clearly have an amazing talent/skill/ability/vision. :) IMO, portraiture of this quality is really is in a class by itself.

Do you work in any other mediums (oil on canvas, etc.)?

And, more examples of your works would be very appreciated!!

Well, you could definitely make a few bucks selling copies to some of us Trek geeks. Like I said, you'd probably get a few nibbles over at Starship Modeler, and probabley some at www.hobbytalk.com in the models/sci fi section.

Hell, even sell the sculpts to a real kitmaker for a few thousand each!

I really do think you could start a career out of this though. I'd make a bunch of custom sculptures in my spare time for some spare cash to build a reputation. Then I'd talk to some experts in that particular field about how to move up in the sculpture world, especially if you didn't mind expanding your repertoire outside genre busts.

I've been getting into portraiture myself lately (though my medium is colored pencil on sketch pad paper), and if I got good enough, and quick enough, I'd look into getting a permit to do it on the street on the weekends in the summer.

Yeah I'm sure I'll do a Picard someday. Althought right now I'm in more of a TOS mood.

Well I also did a Doctor sculpt a little while ago:

And here's an O-Ren Ishii sculpt:

I also built a couple of scale model bridges (at the same scale as the old ERTL TOS bridge)http://webzoom.freewebs.com/davejames/tngbridge.JPG
I've tried my hand at the comic book statue thing too, but those haven't been quite as successful. lol

Here's all my stuff:

Well I've definitely thought about trying the "garage kit" thing before, but it just takes a lot of time to pour all those molds and ship stuff off to people. And I have so little free time as it is.

That and I'm lazy as hell. :D

Very nice work! You've really caught life in these sculptures :bolian:.

Great stuff on your site, too; love the Timm-style sculpt and Indy.

What wonderful work! They are really excellent. I'm sure if you cast them, that they would sell to fans. I know I'd be tempted to buy. Thanks for sharing. :)

ETA: I've just been over to your website. I love the sense of movement you've achieved in your superheroes, especially Superman.

I'm just gonna sit here and keep encouraging you to find someone to market your sculpts.

I'm gonna post a link to this thread at Starship Modeler, there are a lot of resin casters over there.

What size/scale are they?

They're 6 inches tall (and with a base they'll probably be about 8 inches).

No problem. I used to visit there a lot, but I didn't think they had a place for sculpts.

one question Mr. David James:

WHERE IS THE FREEAGIN PAYPAL BUTTON ON YOUR PAGE?

I want one of each, at least!

I'd love a walkthrough of how you do this, a work in progress, if you will. Materials, paints, smoothing-- that'd be really, really cool :).

Well I'm already well into my Kirk sculpt, but maybe for McCoy I'll do a step-by-step tutorial thingy. :)

Very nice.............
If you make any to sell you will have to give Paramount a cut:shifty:
