A comparison

My sister (the sports fanatic) and I (the total opposite) were having a discussion about football, and the hype surrounding it.

So I made the observation that she enjoys watching a football game, while I enjoy playing a game of Monopoly. She said that it was a totally unfair comparison.

So I ask y'all, what do you think of my comparison?

Definitely unfair. I mean, Monopoly is a terrible game and there's a lot less chance involved in football. :p

Seriously, though, I'm honestly not even sure what your comparison is supposed to mean or why it would anger someone.

You know, just never mind. I'm not sure how to express my thoughts here without sounding like I am insulting football fans.

Just color me stupid for starting a thread without a better vision of what I was going to say.

It's all a matter of preference. I love a game of Monopoly, but never get to play it much. I also love Football, but that's just a sunday and monday thing. There is room for both. :)

I love football, and I can't stand most of the hype around it. The two weeks leading up to the superbowl are almost vomit inducingly painful.

I think the hype is part of the reason why I much prefer the CFL. It's much harder to build excessive hype around an eight-team Canadian league.

I love the CFL. Just last week I watched Saskatchewan at Montreal. It's a welcome break from US football.

^ Glad to hear it. :) Most of the Americans I know seem to prefer the NFL, for some reason. Personally, I'll always love the Canadian version for how quick and open it is, and the fact that it rarely gets bogged down in the running game. And the aformentioned lack of hype.

'Course my team (the Argos) kind of sucks, but that's life. With any luck, though, in a year or two I'll have the Ottawa Rough Riders to cheer for. :D

I think one has nothing to do with the other. Your sis seems pretty cool! Nothing like a chick who likes the NFL.

Reading your post, I supposed it was about real football, what you call soccer. Realizing the mistake, I lost all interest in the rest of this thread. :p

Random statement, but one I can't believe is true -- one of my first memories of being on TrekBBS was some poster who said chess was as violent of a sport as football.

Which explains Bobby Fischer's torn ACL when he took a rook with a pawn that one time.
