A.C. Crispin in poor health

A.C. Crispin, author of several well-liked Star Trek novels in the 80's and 90's and founding member of the Writer Beware group helping writers to not get screwed over by shady agents, editors and publishers has posted the following on her Facebook-Account earlier today:

I've been hesitant to make this post, but it's time. I want to thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I fear my condition is deteriorating. I am doing the best I can to be positive but I probably don't have an awful lot of time left. I want you all to know that I am receiving excellent care and am surrounded by family and friends.

I wish all aspiring writers the will to finish and a good contract. Please continue to monitor Writer Beware and be careful who you sign with. Victoria Strauss and Richard White are there to help.

I've asked Michael to collect and read me your messages. As I don't know how things will proceed, I don't know if I'll have the strength to post on Facebook again.

She is battling cancer for several years now.

Let's hope that it's not as bad as she thinks right now and she can prevail in her battle ...

I saw Ann at Shore Leave last month. Alas, she looked very frail.

Besides her classic Trek books, she also wrote the novelization of the original "V" miniseries (which was a huge bestseller), did some "Han Solo" novels for STAR WARS, collaborated on Witch World novels with Andre Norton, created her own "Starbridge" series, and recently wrote the first authorized novel about Captain Jack Sparrow. A few months ago, she was honored with a Life Achievement Award by the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers--an honor she greatly deserved.

Holy crap, I hadn't heard this. My father passed away from cancer a couple years back, so all of my best hopes for her eventual remission/recovery are going to Ms. Crispin right now.

I adored her Trek novels, her novelisation of the original V both captured and enhanced the miniseries, and I adored her StarBridge novels.

To me, the name Ann Crispin is associated with nothing but happy and warm memories, and I wish her the very best :-)

Her books were a huge part of my Trekdom back in the day. And the work she's done to help out new authors has been a massive help to the writing community.

Sad news. I have read many of her books and always enjoyed them. Two other authors I read have already died too young from cancer this year, Vince Flynn and Iain M. Banks. It's not a good year for readers.

I was actually introduced to her through Star Wars. She wrote an entertaining trilogy about Han Solo in his younger, pre-ANH days. Here's hoping her condition improves.
