A BIG Spoiler Is Coming

Different sets over the years. The smaller one is a replica of the actual Hartnell TARDIS.

They didn't go to the trouble of making 13 different looking TARDII in the Day Of The Doctor, though they did do 3 different ones for the end.

I guess the Chameleon Circuit™ works a little, whenever the TARDIS wants it to.

True, but those were all digital and in motion for a short period of time. This case is with a physical set which may or may not be in more than one scene.

They could have just made the exterior identical to the current one. Maybe it'll be addressed briefly in dialogue.

Hopefully, it'll be no more than Nardole noticing the differences and asking The Doctor about it, and he either scowls and shrugs, or just ignores the question.

No doubt about it now...

Seeing these pictures I immediately thought The War Games, but that was the Second Doctor's last story.

OK, something I've never understood before. What's with the different TARDIS shapes?

I realize some have already answered this, at least briefly, but "The Mind Robber" site goes into fascinating detail about the different TARDIS props/set pieces, even comparing them to the real life McKenzie/Trench Mark II box upon which the series props were designed.

He also examines the various interiors and console props.

Enjoy!

It's not that I'm against having the First Doctor back, but is the finale of incumbent Doctor really the most appropriate time to do a multi-Doctor crossover? This is supposed to be Capaldi's swan song, but his departure is going to be overshadowed by the presence of the First Doctor. And this being a multi-Doctor crossover is guaranteed to be a big deal, despite the fact the former Doctor is played by a different actor. Besides, it's been less than five years since Day of the Doctor and we're only just now in the middle of a multi-Master story. Overdoing the crossovers, no?

Sorry, I don't mean to be a wet blanket, I just don't agree with the timing of this storyline is all.

I'd be up for a multi Doctor story every year (which I know wouldn't happen, I'd just be happy to see it). I don't consider a regeneration all that "sacred" if you know what I mean, so I'm really excited. Plus, its something different. Something we haven't seen connected to a regeneration story. I'm sure Capaldi will get plenty of focus, especially when it comes to his last scene.

Personally I'm more excited for his last episode now then before the 1st Doctor was known to be in it, and I can't wait to see how it goes. Even with Moffat's mixed quality nowadays, I liked his last Christmas special, his multi Doctor story and his other ending for a Doctor, so honestly this could be pretty great.

At the very least, we'll get the Twelfth Doctor meeting a past Doctor, and the original while at that. Its no McGann (seriously, Moffat must have an issue with his Doctor or something), but Bradley did so well as Hartnell, it'll be interesting to see him go full First Doctor in this.

Rumoured episode title; "The Once and Future Doctor". (Well, it's a step up from being Merlin...)

Considering he's destined to become Merlin from an alternate universe in an untold story, that wouldn't be so surprising.
