A BIG Spoiler Is Coming

Were people distracted that Pertwee looked older in The Five Doctors?

Or Tennant in Day of The Doctor?

Does something like visual continuity make that big of a difference in Doctor Who?

Honestly, I couldn't care less. For example, I enjoy The Two Doctors a lot, regardless of the obviously older ages of The Doctor and Jamie (although I'm also a fan of the Season 6B theory, so for me that has an explanation). But, yeah, it didn't bother me in The Five Doctors, and Tennant really didn't look much older to me in DotD. Its not a big issue, and not the main reason I'm thinking Simm's Master will be post TEOT, but its just something to mention.

To me it doesn't make sense for the Simm Master to continue after TEOT. The body was badly deteriorating, with his lightening attack on Rassilon likely finishing him off. Somehow he was able to regenerate, as TEOT established he was unable to do so. Perhaps he somehow leached off Rassilon's regeneration energy, resulting in Rassilon regenerating into an elderly form? Besides, it adds much more poignancy to the events if the big showdown between the Doctor, the Master, and Rassilon ends with all three regenerating as a result.

I don't remember TEOT establishing anything like he couldn't regenerate. It seemed he was enjoying himself for the most part.

But then, the Simm Master was his very own special brand of crazy....

Absolutely not. I've said it before: Doctor Who is a show about a time-traveling alien who goes on adventures through time and space with at least one (usually human) companion, and that's all anyone ever needs to worry about. The rest will come out in the wash.

Given the spoiler was trumpeted as "filling in a gap in Time Lord history" (or words to that effect), surely it's about the return of Gallfrey from the pocket universe where it was hiding? We never saw it actually return. And it would tie into the Simm Master, who was last seen getting stuck into old Rassy when Gallifrey returned to the time lock.

Bill is described as having "a star in her eye."

How much do you want to bet it's one of the stars of a binary star system within the constellation of Kasterborous?

Yeah, the gap having been created by Moffat himself, who decided to bring them back in series 9, without having to explain how they did so.

Idiotic, at best.

It wasn't though. That was a comment made by the person writing about the Trailer in the Radio Times. Presumably they think the Simm to Gomez regeneration is a gap in Time Lord history.

Yeah, I thought that was weird too. He set up this whole, "I got to find home" as a quest for the next "50 years" and then resolved it off camera a couple of years later.

Weird.

Yeah, that's definitely the big spoiler, proving once again that Moffat was over exaggerating.

Really? I'm not a huge fan of the Simm Master but i think his return is a big deal, and we've never had a multiple Master story so this surely is unprecedented for screen Who?

I guess so for the average viewer. For me it seemed inevitable. Having a multiple Master story is exciting, but I guess I've been so worn down by Moffat hyperbole that I just don't see it as explosive as he does.

Inevitable, really? It hasn't happened for 50 some years...
I'm actually excited about it. I don't mind that it's been spoiled. I'm looking forward to how those two will play off each other.

I'd be up for seeing Beevers, but at that point they might decide to just bring in all the living Masters, and I really don't want to see Eric Roberts ever again

I meant John Simm returning in general felt inevitable, not so much a Two Masters story being inevitable. Sorry for the lack of clarity.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about it, I'm just weary of Moffat hyperbole.

I'd be tickled by a Geoffrey Beevers dubbed Crispy Master making a cameo, especially given that he's already done a multi-Master story via Big Finish.

"So you're my replacements? A nanny and a clown."
That would be grand, but I wouldn't expect it.

I don't remember TEOT establishing anything like he couldn't regenerate.
The whole point is that the resurrection was botched thanks to Lucy, resulting in a body which was incomplete. It was established that whatever it was causing him to go all Skeletor was going to result in his death, so one would think if he could regenerate he would post haste. Also there's this bit of dialogue:
GINGER: You look like that bloke. Harold Saxon? The one that went mad.
MASTER: Now isn't that funny. Isn't that just the best thing of all. The master of disguise, stuck looking like the old Prime Minister.
I would assume that "stuck looking like the old Prime Minister" means he can't regenerate.

All this talk of being disappointed by Simm not being "mind blowing". What exactly does come under that? Personally I think it's a fairly big deal Simm coming back, not just for casual viewers. As stated, a multi-master story has never been done, and he hasn't been on the show for the best part of a decade. In fact generally speaking there's not really been many returning actors from the RTD era since Moffat took over.

Also, I think its the first time two living actors having played the Masters on-screen. Hell, the first time there is a returning living Master on-screen. That's a fairly big deal.

Oh, and if its better than the wretched Two Master Big Finish trilogy of audios, I'd be fine with it. Really. Man, that one STANK!

.

Really, the John Simm who's whinged about Who fans wanting his autograph and who's never given any indication of wanting to come back?

I mean Eccleston coming back would have been more amazing but still, I'm surprised.

Fair enough, but in my defense, I didn't know that about Simm.

I never expected any RTD thing to come back under Moffat. Simm, for me, is so associated with Russell's time...

We never even had the Master with Matt Smith!

So, it's pretty surprising to me.
