A Beautiful Poodle - Jack Bauer has Been Rescued

Jack Bauer needed rescuing.

I took him out last night to go to the bathroom. He just laid there. I tried to feed and water him this morning, and he just ran into his kennel. It's very, very sad. :(

On a positive note, when we woke up this morning, he was on his side with his legs stretched straight out - in other words, he was "out of his shell!" That disappeared as soon as he woke up though, which was sad.

He's making positive movements though - exploring the apartment, looking up at my face, etc.

Also, his ear seems to be doing better already after only three drops. I clipped a lot of hair out of it last night and this morning.

Give it time. It will take weeks for him to become accustomed to you and the fact that he's no longer in an abusive home.

Yeah, you'll make a lot of steps foward and then a few back. It's never in a straight line. He'll come around when he gets used to you.

I rescued an abused dog as well.

The first couple of years were interesting. He was apparently abused by a male, and so he was extremely intimidated by me. More than once, he got scared, and attacked me bad enough to draw blood and/or cause a major owie. He hasn't done that for about three years...partly because he's learned to trust me, and partly because I've learned what might set him off. We call it "going back to the 'Nam".

Sort of the doggy version of a car backfiring, and an old dude screaming "INCOMING!" and diving under a table.

He'll never be over it, but he's happy now. :)

Just takes patience and understanding.

My GF and I adopted a beautiful chocolate miniature poodle yesterday from a rescue group. He's almost two, according to what we think, and is a very sweet, loving dog. He was the victim of neglect - up until a month ago, when he was rescued, he had rarely left a cage, been petted, or interacted with. I say rarely because I don't feel I can honestly say never, but he acts like never. If you put him in the middle of a room, he will find the nearest wall to huddle against. If you sit him in your lap, he will lay down as small as possible against you.

I took him to the vet this morning. He has a yeast infection in his ear, and they gave me drops to put in. We did a stool sample and didn't find any parasites, but his adbomen is very tight so we're going to be watching him. Since he's sick, they wouldn't vaccinate him and told me to bring him back later in the week once he starts eating.

This little guy can never replace Midnight - Midnight never met a stranger. However, we enjoyed his strong personality and loved him, and we felt that since we had such a good experience with him, that we would get a dog that was needier. We think we want to rescue miniature and toy poodles when we get a place out in the country after we marry, so Jack Bauer will be a great way to see if this is something we want to do. He's a sweet, sweet dog, and I hope he comes out of his shell. :)

Great job, Apostle! Congrats and God bless. You've done a good thing.

I came home from lunch to play with Jack Bauer. Right now, he's laying in my lap, sleeping. He is clearly exhausted. I wonder how long it will be before he feels rested? I put him on the porch so he could get some "outside time." He didn't like it out there, and ran back inside. I was encouraged though - he jumped up on the couch!

Does anyone know how to make a scared poodle crap? He started eating last night (when I mix wet food with dry food) but he is not crapping, or peeing.

Yes, I did. They had done a pretty extensive exam on Monday. I called back today after I saw your message. They said they recommend a teaspoon of yogurt mixed in with his food. I didn't talk with the vet though - just the equivalent of a nurse.

Jack Bauer and I thank you!
