Another attempt at bringing more adult storytelling to the world of American animation. Will it succeed, or go the way of Titan AE, Final Fantasy, etc?

Didn't this start out as a short film? I remember seeing a version of this a while ago that only about 10 min. long. I guess Burton bought the rights from the original animator?

The short is intriguing, but expanding a short into a feature runs the risk of diluting it too much. And since the original short has no spoken dialogue, it seems a feature version with an all-star voice cast might be too great a departure from its tone and make it more conventional.
