Someone who doesn't use verbs?
I could totally see this happening.
Thought it was an ok episode,better then the last few episodes,but not keen on this doctor or the series yet,just wondering about a story I read a few day ago bout people complaining about capaldi accent was hard to understand,yes I agree with his,this is something I was thinkin about b4 the new series started,what if people have a hard time understanding him and they sto watching the show cause of this and the ratings start to fall.
^^ Why would they have any trouble understanding him? He doesn't have a thick accent. I'm a foreigner and I can understand him just fine. Moreover, people didn't seem to have any problem understanding Amy Pond.
American here. I have to admit, I have a problem at times understanding Capaldi, and I've watched (and laughed with) The Thick of It. But to me the difference between him and Amy is that he speaks much faster and with a much narrower pronunciation than Amy. Also, I had no trouble with McCoy, though that might be of some sort of regional difference that I'm not aware of.
But it's also how kooky and offbeat the Doctor's dialogue generally tends to be under RTD and Moffet. That whole rapid exchange of introductions between Clara, "Gun Girl", and her uncle had me rewinding several times.
This is so strange to me? I'm an American, and my mother was born and raised in England, and she had a very thick Accent. I find Capaldi much easier to understand than Tennant and Smith speaking at 1000 miles an hour? It was those two I had to rewind frequently to catch lines.
I am hard of hearing and i can't really remember having a hard time understanding Capaldi or the other doctors. Then again I tend to look at the closed captioning (which isn't perfect in any sense) when I watch. Though I have to say there are some English or European accents I have a very hard time understanding. I do know I have a hard understanding various members of the Royal family when they do interviews.
I have to do a rewatch, to see if there was times I misunderstood. Though I am sure I had moments where I couldn't understand any of them.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding Capaldi (there was some line this week that I rewound, and still didn't get), but that's usually because the music is too loud in the mix.

I'll definitely have to catch the rerun of this since I dozed off for about 10 mins during the 2nd half (missed how Psi & Saibra were back after having apparently died), but while I enjoyed the episode overall, I felt a lack of fun, which is a problem that's been hovering over most of the episodes this season, with the exception of "Robot of Sherwood."
Anyway, regarding this episode, I liked the brain-busting alien, the aforementioned Psi & Saibra (a pair I would not be surprised to see again), and I was amazed at just how unrecognizable Keeley Hawes was in this episode. Granted, I'm really only familiar with her from her days on Spooks/MI-5, but still.
More Clara/Danny stuff next ep. Hopefully it'll be less dull than what we've already seen.

I agree, it's especially difficult to hear his asides when the music is so loud.
Just finished watching this one; I really enjoyed it. Very strange ending, I thought---just sort of "wandered off," but didn't properly end.
Liked the characters and the twist at the end. This one was well-paced, nicely plotted and did a great job of showcasing the Doctor.

Everyone hears differently. I'm deaf in my left ear, and have trouble hearing multiple things at once (i can't hear in stereo for example), sometimes the music overrides the speech in this show, they need to turn down the music volume a bit. I'm American, as long as I can actually hear his voice apart from the other sounds in the show I'm ok. I usually watch the show with Headphones on, which helps a lot.
One pet peeve that isn't a dealbreaker -- this show cannot seem to get the concept of the group slo-mo walk right. Yes, it's an attempt to be smooth, cool, and bad-ass, but whenever the show does it, it seems choppy, forced, and filmed incorrectly. I also had this problem in Day of the Doctor with War, Ten, and Eleven.
Though at times in the past, slo-mo filming of single characters like Nine or Ten come across as incredibly cool, and I quite loved how it was used for that Day of the Doctor teaser trailer.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who sometimes has trouble understanding what Capaldi says. I'm Irish and would say I have a good ear for most accents. Never had this problem before. I think maybe his voice is a bit lower, he speaks a bit more under his breath and his voice has a little bit of a worn edge to it.
Maybe it's because of the similarities between scottish accents and many of those in the northern parts of Ireland or maybe it's because I'm familiar with him from The Thick of It. But I definitely find PC a lot easier to understand than Tennant or Smith. To me, his accent and diction are clear and pronounced whereas their estuary/mockney type accents were often rushed and garbled at times, particularly during exposition or 'here's my solution' type scenes.
