For some reason the Teller / almost extinct alien reminded me of something out of Farscape (but the dots won't quite join up as to why). Any reminder of the magnificence that is Farscape, however vague, is fine by me.
I was also reminded of Farscape, particularly the "lobster" used on both Johns in "Thanks for Sharing."

I loved that episode and Peter Capaldi might have my favorite line in the show, when he was talking about the calories in the TARDIS not counting:

Clara: You're Kidding
Doctor: Of course I am it's a Time Machine not a Miracle Worker :guffaw:

This episode was like Doctor Who meets Ocean's Eleven Meet's TNG's Alligance. It was a lot of fun and I didn't see the reveal coming. I also was reminded of End of the World (The very first episode of Doctor Who I saw) in terms of quirkiness and just fun. This is my favorite episode of this series so far, and I think I'm now fully on the Peter Capaldi train. He's a great doctor with some witty dialog and an insane attitude.

You know, I thought the first half of the movie reminded me a lot of some of Eccleston's episodes. I can't put my finger on why, but it did have a quirky, fun feeling that's probably it.

Okay episode. The story was completely predictable (I knew they were rescuing the Teller, and I knew the Doctor was the Architect long before the reveal), but I really enjoyed the characters.

Not a whole lot to say about it, though. Nothing about it really contributed to the greater arc of the season, which is fine. I am really starting to wonder about Clara's inevitable departure. It seems she is more and more uncomfortable with his new personality every day.

See, I think she's getting more comfortable with him. She hugged him last week (this one too?) and she witnessed that the Doctor orchestrated all this to save someone.

I get the feeling she's comfortable with him, but doesn't really get the same thrill of jaunting off to distant planets and time periods as she did with Smith's Doctor (who would have been just ridiculously fun to be around). With the obvious exception of meeting Robin Hood, the whole thing almost feels more like an obligation or distraction for her this season.

I guess I mean she uncomfortable with his harshness. This Doctor is way more okay with letting people die than Matt Smith was. She may get along with him well enough, but I also think she is trying to convince herself that he's still the same man that he was.

The way the Doctor drops by and picks her does seem to suggest that she might be leaving, especially with this episode, but I don't see any of the lack of thrill or discomfort that is being mentioned. She seems closer than I would have been in her place, and her character has helped me let the new Doctor sink in really quick. I almost forgot he was a new Doctor by the second episode.

And the "suggestion" that she might be leaving is probably a misdirection. And we'd actually take Pink on board.

My ratings for the series so far:
1) Deep Breath
2) Robot of Sherwood
3) Into the Dalek
4) Time Heist
5) Listen

Note the top three are very very close together and listen is quite a bit lower than time heist, but none of them are bad by any means.

Yeah I have to admit, the very gradual development of his character and all the attention they seem to be giving him, makes me think they intend him to be more than just Clara's boyfriend for the second half of the season. Or just another Mickey who joins in their adventures for a little while.

It feels like they're actually building towards something a bit more long-term than that.

My rating:

Listen
Into the Dalek
Deep Breath
Time Heist
Robot of Sherwood

But I've pretty much enjoyed them all in one way or another. Listen is just the clear standout so far.

Probably my list as well. Although Time Heist would be below Deep Breath by the narrowest of margings, and Robot Of Sherwood would be about 500 miles below Time Heist, just to make clear how bad that episode really was.

I've enjoyed every episode on some level so far this season. Pretty solid run. And what a diverse set of stories-- both "Listen" and "Time Heist" feel like real experiments with the format, genuinely offputting in their atypicality.

I really enjoyed this episode. I had figured out the Doctor was the Architect, but not the reveal of the real purpose of the heist or the bit with the Teller. The whole season has been pretty strong so far.

I think this is the best episode of the season. Even though I didn't understand fully who the architect was, I still felt the episode was a bit tighter than previous episodes.

I still find it interesting that this Doctor is willing to quicken the death of a companion if it seems that he or she is doomed (e.g. the device that turned out to not be a disintegrater, but a transmat device).

When Clara and Danny are flirting with one another for dinner, Clara dialogue sounded a bit like something that would have came out of Amy Pond's mouth...or even River's (i.e. the joking bit about Danny leaving out words).

I'm sure I'll come back to this episode someday, but I'm looking forward to the next episode.
