it was good, without a doubt the best episode this series but I think the name thing was a little bit overhyped, it was simply a password to open the door, not some life changing secret in itself.

The reveal of the John Hurt Doctor was confusing, is he a future incarnation or came he in between two of the earlier ones? The Eleventh Doctor said he was him but not "The Doctor" so he could be an earlier incarnation without changing the numbering of the Doctors.

And we've still a got a mystery as to the truth of the Doctor :techman:

We know John Hurt plays a Doctor, but we don't know if he's a suppressed past regeneration or a future regeneration. That is unless I missed something. It'll be tomorrow when Itunes downloads before I can rewatch it.

Hurt could be the first Doctor, one before Hartnell. The Doctor did say his name was like a promise. What better way to atone for being a "tyrant" than becoming a healer.

WOW!!!

Just WOW!!!

I give this top marks, brilliant from beginning to end, roll on November.

As for the poll, i have no idea who any of those names are apart from Merlin, so i just assumed the top name was top score, hope that's right.

That was FUCKING TERRIFIC. Had such low expectations as New Who finales are generally thick as pigshit runarounds with the Daleks or The Master.

Utterly magical, Clara arc was resolved perfectly, Whispermen were creepy, it resembled a Lawrence Miles novel and JOHN FUCKING HURT. OH MY GOD I'M SO EXCITED.

From what 11 and Hurt say, I think it will be the "Doctor" who ended the Time War. Either a forgotten Doctor because of what he did (or to keep what he had to do from himself) or a breakoff from 8 or 9 that did the deed.

WOW WOW WOW

That was utterly brilliant and worth the wait for the most part, easily one of the best episodes of Doctor Who since its return. So is John Hurt, the Valeyard? as that name was mentioned in the episode and all points kind of lead to him doing something terrible. Also Hurt is not going to replace Smith but since all life cycles do age eventually I assume he could easily be an aged version of the 12th cycle.

I love how Clara was put into all the old Doctor Who footage and how she came to be the impossible girl was simply awesome :techman:

Fantastic teaser. Some predictable developments (of course we don't get his name), and overall.

Well, that was... Mostly good, covered a bit too many of the usual Moffat tropes we've already seen, but still did it for me. Doubtless will wind up certain fans by confirming a certain relationship. Great performances from Smith and Grant. Clara still beautiful, Strax very funny. (Hang on, so the Silence were trying to prevent the Great Intelligence from fucking up the universe?)

Had me in tears again, not for from the intended reasons but because... Yeah, more a trigger than an intended emotional manipulation. Just...

This season seems to have done to me a lot, being too personal, too close to home. Which you'd think is impossible for a series like Dr Who - but I know what it's like to lose a love and not get to say goodbye. And that means stuff like that Doctor River scene... really hurts.

And as a throw-in, we had the first mention since Trial of the Valeyard tonight... we're talking, in some form, the Doctor gone bad. Not evil, but the last step over the edge into so ruthless as to be evil whatever his intents, I suspect.

Wow just wow, that has to have been the best 45 minutes of Doctor Who in a long time. The ending was amazing, the production values were through the roof. Just when you think Moffat has gone as far as he can, he just knocks your socks off.

Thought the Clara/Impossible Girl resolution was perfect. SO much better than the arc resolution last year.

And they used the fucking Dragonfire clip for McCoy. Hilarious.

Possibly a time locked Doctor? The one that ended the time war and is still technically stuck there, that'd be interesting to unravel.

Well, the only thing we can be sure of is that he's NOT an incarnation who's somehow been blocked from the Doctor's memory: the current Doctor knows full well who he is, knows what he did, and thinks that he, unlike himself and the 10 previous incarnations we already knew about, doesn't deserve the name 'Doctor'.
