I'd be fine with an American actor, but they would have to play the character as British-- heck a Brit plays superman so fair's fair![]()
I'm npt sure how casting a female Doctor is either empowering for women or PC for that matter. Moffat has already empowered the companions by making the show about them instead of the Doctor, where IMO the attension should be focused on. It'd be nice if the show reached a point where it didn't matter about the gender of the Doctor. But then all this is pure speculation.

Several in this thread have said that they would give a female Doctor a chance if they got a good actress. What if the actress in question were Hayley Atwell?
But who would be a proper companion(s)?
