79 Episodes, $79 million

I very much like the symmetry of these numbers:

TOS had 79 episodes that ran for 3 years.
The new Star Trek has earned $79 million in just over 3 days.

This old-timer who fondly remembers enjoying TOS in its original run couldn't be more pleased with nuTrek's success. A happy part of my boyhood is glowing a bit brighter today.

Even though I always count 80 episodes for TOS. I know that 'The Menagerie' has one episode number, but come on: they're 2 episodes.

I'm not sure, but I think the total was always viewed as 79 because THE CAGE was never included. It's tradition. Only 79 episodes of the original series.

Later I guess when they finally decided to include THE CAGE, they began numbering MENAGERIE as a single episode, to try and keep the "79".
