765874 - Unification

1. Is this canon?
2. A friend of mine says the young grey-haired Vulcan is Saavik's and Spock's son - does he have a name?
3. Is the number a stardate? Comes back as 15 November 3088.

This is the best de-aging CGI I have ever seen. I looked for artifacts and other anomalies, but the appearances of everyone and their facial expressions were top notch. I hope that if all Star Trek shows get remastered down the line, such tech can be used to fix all sorts of issues, actor replacements and continuity errors.

1. It’s an official Paramount production. I’ll leave that for you to decide.
2. Sorak. He’s listed in the end credits.
3. It’s not a stardate.

1. No.

2. Sorak.

3. I believe it's supposed to be Colt's serial number but could be wrong.

david is dead…this is not the nexus, it's reality, you can see a glimpse of kirk's body having been reanimates as picard season 3.
That doesn't make sense...to me it's obviously Kirk's essence travelling towards "heaven" but before he can completely cross over, he enters Spock's final resting place (probably from between Star Trek: Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond) and both of their consciousnesses meet again before they go on together...

Like if this is a regenerated Kirk (I had to go research Picard season 3 since I stopped watching all the shows after Picard season 1), why would he still be wearing his movies clothing? And after he is given back his insignia by the lizard officer, why would everything vanish?

Added Note: in light of all of Spock's tv and film appearances, having someone put on film that Spock and Saavik had a child from a deleted movie scene (these are deleted for a reason- they don't work) is so dreadfully fanboy-ish...AND it ruins Saavik as a character...

EDIT: Also, I never said it was the Nexus...

The biggest reason why I don't see it as the Nexus is because of Your and Colt and the visual call backs to Picard Season 3 with Project Lazarus. If it's the Nexus Yor is a complete non sequitur and makes no sense as Kirk should not be familiar with him.

Gary at the beginning feels like someone acting to give Kirk a final peace rather than his ignominious death.

That's my reading. Mileage will vary, etc.

It’s a stream-of-consciousness journey from one reality to another. Or at least that’s my take on it. I think it’s clear that the ambiguousness of it all was intentional, and that people can come to their own conclusions, and nobody is right or wrong in their interpretation, though there does seem to be a logical way to explain what you see when you have all the evidence and connect the dots. I’m perfectly satisfied with my interpretation, but I’m not going to say that I’m right.

Probably not but perhaps.

It’s not deaging: they use different actors with prosthetics to look like the originals, enhancing everything with CGI.

Makes more sense to me than it being the nexus, as if it was Yor being there is totally preposterous, as was that brief shot of project Lazarus, also why would he see an old saavik (that makes perfect sense in the 24th century) and her and spock’s son?

Yor has been established as a temporal agent from the Kelvin timeline, my guess is that he purposefully went looking for Kirk to have Spock see him one last time after many years before dying.

The shot with the three versions of Kirk, as Mitchell and colt at the beginning, remains problematic.

1) good question. Probably the same reason Yor wears a uniform that has no sense with the setting: to immediately making the audience aware of how he is even before seeing the face.
2) I think that’s a token to switch universes, Kirk putting the Starfleet insignia back on though has also a certain symbolism: he’s resolved and ready to face this new adventure, whatever it may be.

AND it ruins Saavik as a character...
How so?!

I have seen comment elsewhere to the effect that it makes Saavik a predator who molested a vulnerable, teenage-bodied Spock, whose mind McCoy says "is a void".

Which I think is a gross misreading to say the least.

She was trying to save his life. Comments like that are clearly from people with nothing better to do but act like they're on some moral high ground when instead it makes them look like idiots.

I can understand how people that are not too familiar with amok time may see it that way, but when you consider that McCoy states that without release Spock hormonal imbalances could have killed him it really doesn’t make sense.

What's Sirtis got to do with this?

I found the whole thing baffling to be honest!

I think I get the ongoing storyline now.

Gary seems to be a catalyst, I think Colt is a Watcher watching over Spock, so she leadfs the Section 31/Daystrom effort to restore Kirk, and take him to Spock in the Kelvin Timeline to say goodbye. Is that his body or a Golem? Apparantly that garden is the ENTERPRISE-J! in the 25th Century. How did the otehrs get there? Yor is a Temporal Agent and soldier of the Temporal Wars.

What got me is they teased TMP Spock and Colt, random shots like the Ringship Enterprise - we saw these on screen for a milisecond! Is that it, or are therre future shorts?
