The only problem is that the expectation for XII will be phenomenal. People will expect Dark Knight. JJ just set the bar super high, and he has to really make sure that the writing gets tightened up considerably.
Angels & Demons is next weekend--it probably will take #1, unless it does very poorly or Trek has better legs than we expect even after this.

This also means a new (reboot) TV series.
1. Corporations do what is needed to make money. They let the lawyers draw up the paperwork. Who owns what is just a detail; nobody is going to let that stand in their way. With all the talk of a new TV show produced by Paramount I have to ask if this is still Paramount's call? Isn't the TV license owned by CBS? Therefore, regardless of what Paramount might be planning, if CBS wants to cash in on a new Star Trek hype now or in the not too distant future, regardless if this is short sighted or not for the franchise as a whole, couldn't they just do that? That is, if CBS feels it would be profitable to make a new series say in a years time could Paramount stop them? Or, at a later point, commission CBS to make a new series, even if CBS wouldn't want to make one at its own behest?
2. Yes, in theory CBS could do a Star Trek TV show now. But if you look at their demographic and show lineup, you'll see that Star Trek is entirely wrong for them. So maybe a new series would not appear on CBS, but CBS would get its share of the profits. They, like everyone else who stands to profit, would put the show where it makes the most sense. CBS is the place where it makes the least sense. Even the CW would be a better fit!![]()
Maybe CBS will do Star Trek CSI next season.![]()
I don't think the dropoff will be as bad (65+%) as Wolverine.
