70s movies recommendations

Heh...I'm in the midst of re-watching Fear & Loathing... I always get distracted by Christina Richie. :D

Plenty of good recommendations here. I don't know if I can add anything new, but here are a few of my favorites:

Mean Streets
Dog Day Afternoon
Network
The Last Picture Show
Papillon
The Getaway
The Conversation
Apocalypse Now
THX 1138

Rocky

Enter the Dragon

Jaws

Dirty Harry

Logan's Run - decent 70s (pre-Star Wars) scifi.

The Three Musketeers with Michael York and a large cast. Very fun movie and a hell of a lot better than that later Charlie Sheen version.

Andromeda Strain

China Syndrome

West World

Duel

Rollercoaster

Any of the Airport movies.

I would add:
Apocalypse Now

I especially agree about this one.

This movie and Platoon (which I think is an early 80's film) are two of the most horrifying Vietnam War movies ever made, IMO. And from what I've read, are well thought of by Vietnam War vets, who say they are the closest portrayals to what it was really like.

Anyone who would glorify war should be made to watch these two movies until they 'get it'.

Also cool that Martin Sheen and Charlie Sheen are the two stars of these films.

Both films will stick with you for days after watching them...but Apocalypse Now is downright haunting. It sticks with you for weeks.

If I think of something else, I'll post up.
