I'm not sure I agree. This discussion about continents, like the discussion about the "southern ocean" in the other similar thread, isn't a matter of pure science when it comes to common usage. The terms we use, while ostensibly having definitions approved by independent scientific organisations, get used much more widely in a highly geopoliticised manner.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, nor that the only "correct" definition should be the scientific one. After all, for most people and certainly to national governments, the sociopolitical definitions are far more important albeit more malleable/indistinct.

Just remember that Oceania is at war with Eurasia and all will be fine.

As a sequel to, and inspired by, this thread, which of the seven continents have you stepped upon?

I've stepped upon quite a bit of North America (all of it south of the Canadian border) and upon a bit of the European continent which isn't connected by land to The Continent.

I've been to Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, but that's all (sort of) North America. I've been to Thailand and Korea, so that's Asia. Still haven't made it to Europe but hope to see Rome and London within the next five years or so.

Former cruiseship crew member here. Been to most countries on the Mediterranean, North american continent, Caribbean, several central american countries, Finland, England, Switzerland, Hawaii, Alaska and all but a couple of the big square U.S. states.

Still hoping to see Japan, Hong Kong and China one day. Germany would be interesting and Antarctica would be nice too.

I'm a boring American who never actually left the United States.

Speaking of America, however, if I understand correctly, Canadians are sometimes unhappy about the way "American" is a term incorrectly implied as describing U.S. Citizens, rather than citizens of the Continent as a whole. I imagine the effect would be essentially the same for folks living near Australia.
