It was pretty much a 'nothing' episode. Nothing really happened, nothing was gained from this episode and we learnt pretty much nothing about the characters. *yawn*

Plus it was a cheesy, fanwanky, mess of an episode. Seriously? The Tardis inhabits a lady! Ooo!!! Fan-fucking-tastic. It's the sort of thing a nine year old with dementia would come up with. Almost as bad as 'Fear her' or 'Love and Monsters'

You must have been watching something else and not "The Doctor's Wife". We learn TONS about the Doctor and TONS about what we always speculated about, that the TARDIS was sentient. We learned that one of Amy's fears is how Rory feels about her being away for long proofs of time, and that Rory remembers (and feels) the 2000 years he waited.

Maybe you watched last weeks episode by mistake. It was a fun pirate romp, but no character development.
Well I ended up watching it three times, one of the times a fell asleep.

Seriously? Is this this what passes for Doctor Who these days? Goddamn!

I dunno. Maybe I've just been watching too much of the original show, and am coming into the Nuseries again expecting quality storytelling. Woops. My mistake

Back to discussing the episode itself...did anyone catch what those cube voices were saying? I just heard "Gallifrey" but couldn't make out anything else.

Wouldn't it be nice if from now on the Doctor pulls the Tardis door open rather than pushes?
To quote Buffy, "A world of 'No'". Maybe if he's in a rush to get out of the ship, but only in the direst of emergencies. The Peter Cushing TARDIS had outward-opening doors and it just looked wrong. Mileage may vary, of course. :)

It's happened a few times in the new series, I think. The only time I'm sure of in "The Eleventh Hour" when the Doctor climbs out of the crashed TARDIS, but I think there were other instances.

Oh yeah, the slapped-together console looked really good. Too bad there aren't any more Timelords around, the red column would be fitting for a somewhat disreputable Timelord's TARDIS, like the Corsair's.
I wonder if Sexy archived it. There might be times that the Doctor feels like pulling that one as the desktop theme, for fun and nostalgia's sake, because it reminds him of the time that he and Sexy built a TARDIS console from spit, baling wire, stone knives, and bearskins. :)

As an American I had no idea that this one had a big deal guest star or a big deal writer. I had nothing to go on but the episode itself and i was seriously wowed. I loved it.

I have to wonder why some people even bother to keep watching the show each and every week if they loathe it so much!?

I didn't understand all of it, either, but I also heard "This is the High Council" and "We're still here". To me, the messages appeared to be from the end of the Time War which is why I thought it might be the Timelords from the last day of the Time War behind the timelock that could somehow be heard on this planet. It's somewhat disappointing that wasn't really the case.

It's amazing how many masochists post on these forums. Someone who hated the episode watched it not once, not twice, but three times.

And worse still, they're masochists who apparently can't interpret what they watch. Nothing happened? Really? So we didn't get to meet the TARDIS? We didn't learn that she stole him as much as he stole her? We didn't learn that she is constantly malfunctioning when she takes the Doctor somewhere unexpected, but instead delivers him there intentionally? We didn't get to see more of the TARDIS' interior? We didn't get to hear the TARDIS whisper a prophetic clue to Rory about an upcoming episode?

Perhaps I'm the one who watched a different episode then, because I'm pretty sure I saw those things and plenty more in the one I watched.

(And I only watched it once.)

Same here. No idea that this was an ep that I should have been looking forward to. Just "this weeks ep" to me and it was superb!
I thought that the scrap-built console reminded me of the one from the auxiliary control room from the early Baker years. Complete with the mirror, too. I was also surprised to see the coral room again, too. I figured the set was struck. Nice to see the BBC spent the money to store at least part of it. I'm impressed they spent the $$ to put it back together for what amounted to 3 minutes of screen time.
Loved the actress who played Idris. What a beauty! Haven't seen her on BBCA before but will look out for her now. Did I miss a reveal about who exactly Idris was or where she came from? Usually, in cases of possession, the Doc is concerned with the original host but, in this case, he doesn't seem concerned at all. A bit odd.

I actually came in with quite low expectations since the only thing I had to go on was the title.

I don't loathe the show, I love it. It's probably one of the best things on Telly. I just think it could do better.

Well, the first time I was eating, so I wasn't really paying attention. So I watched it a second time and fell asleep from boredom.

I got round to watching it a third time and I didn't like it.

Well sure, we learnt those things. But we didn't really LEARN anything. If that makes sense...

Not totally blown away by this one. It reminds me of some episode of Red Dwarf for some reason. Maybe the voice of the house or the storyline. Or like the episodes of Knight Rider with K.A.R.R.

Well, the other two people and then the TARDIS itself explained what had happened and that now that House was gone they would die. Whoever Idris once had been had died a long time ago.
