I've been thinking about something a lot today and wanted to ask it here. Did they drop the whole Gamma Forest thing which made the cliffhanger in A Good Man Goes to War. I ask in the context of River and how she got her name, yet in this episode, she was pretty much told what her name was. The mystical side of it (If one can call it that) looked to be tossed out the window and if that was true, that kind of sucks.

What was the significance, then, of the 'fish fingers and custard' line? Was it solely to imbue some confidence and fight in the Doctor to see out his 31 good minutes?

Indeed, anyone else reckon we'll be seeing what really happened in the 28 minutes or so between that scene and his return in the top and tails?

Bingo. I have a feeling that there's going to be another flashback later in the season explaining exactly what the Doctor's plan was, and exactly what the epiphany about fish fingers and custard was. I suspect it involves the wedding, given that he dressed up in his tux and they were careful to bring it up more than once in the episode.

Yeah, we saw the Doctor show up in a strange outfit once last season as well, and it was certainly relevant then.

There's sort of a weird looking, foresty type area in the trailer.

Amy's walking towards it.

Also, if the Doctor's & River's timelines are reversed, the Doctor shouldn't be able to see her again in his timeline, right? I mean, she saw him for the "first time".

Loved it.

Did anyone else do a double-take when Mels was escorted out of the principal's office? The guy they got to do that part looked an awful lot like Colin Firth.

Yeah, thought that too:)

I made a screencap:

Just a brilliant episode. Probably my new favourite of the series so far. Matt was great. So were Arthur and Karen, and Alex just plain has fun as River. I'm very looking forward to the rest of the series, especially the finale. Think we're going to be in for something huge.

I have to say, "Let's Kill Hitler" was the first episode of Series Six apart from "The Doctor's Wife" that actually felt like a proper Doctor Who episode. This show has been missing its whimsy this season!

Or something that will they will come back to. It's a little early to say it's been dropped.

Still, I have to disagree with that assessment. Had this been an Enterprise-style title it would have been something simple like "Mels" or perhaps "Assassin."

How about Deadly Assassin, oh wait.

It's a reference to a quote in the episode. Not every title has to be descriptive (especially when description would spoil the episode).

Another thought that has occurred to me. Amy and Rory have been on Earth "all summer." Presumably, this means summer 2011. Assuming Miracle Day also takes place summer 2011, are they currently immortal, or does this take place after Miracle Day wraps up?

Well, there are a couple of "assumings" there that complicates things. However, that being said, I think it's fair to go with the idea that Doctor Who characters are traveling during Torchwood episodes. Essentially, since Torchwood events are never going to show up in Doctor Who, he needs to never be effected by them.

I think I figured it out, although it's another paradox. The woman who embroidered that thing for Amy translated "Melody Pond" into "River Song." Amy got the translation kind of from there, although also just through the whole paradox of her telling Melody her name as River. I could be wrong. That's a bit more ephemeral than usual, but that's one possibility. It's also possible we haven't yet seen the Gamma Forest.

I find purely descriptive titles really insipid most of the time. "Planet of the Dead." "The Deadly Assassin." "The Parting of the Ways." "Victory of the Daleks." "The Sontaran Stratagem." "The Vampires of Venice." "Day of the Moon." "The End of Time." Blagh. Most of them are "The [Noun] of [Whatever]." Horrible titles, the lot of them.

The best titles are ones that say something about the theme of the episode. "Human Nature." "Amy's Choice." "Flesh and Stone." "Last of the Time Lords." "The End of the World." "The Beast Below."

Frankly, Doctor Who often isn't very good at those, though. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel were geniuses at episode titles and making them fit appropriately into the themes being explored by their respective episodes. "Restless." "Fool for Love." "The Body." "The Gift." "Bargaining." "After Life." "Once More, With Feeling." "Smashed." "Seeing Red." "Grave." "Beneath You." "Selfless." "The Killer in Me." "Lies My Parents Told Me." "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been." "A New World." "Long Day's Journey." "Soulless." "Orpheus." "Shiny Happy People." "Peace Out." "Conviction." "Soul Purpose." "A Hole in the World." "Shells." "Underneath." "Time Bomb." "Not Fade Away."

But I ramble.

Episode titles are a very, very serious business. Why, they make or break their episodes. Yes sir. Days, if not weeks, should go into picking each one. They're that important.

Nah. But when they're good, they just make the episode that much better, y'know?

Not really. They only have 5 episodes left of the season, and hopefully they don't carry this over to Season 7.

It's still early in "Season 6.5." Besides, five episodes is plenty of time to revisit/resolve this dangling plot thread. If not, picking up on it in season seven wouldn't be so terrible either.

Hm, did anyone mention this already?

Obviously this River wouldn't try to kill the Doctor again after she gave him all her remaining regenerations. So the River who shot and killed the Doctor is confirmed to be a younger version of her. Why would she try again if she succeeded the first time?

We saw her do it already. You know, at the lake when she was still in the space suit as a child. (Except she actually kills the Tesserlact, though we're not supposed to be smart enough to figure that out yet.)
