In fact, I think it was very much Gatiss still writing for RTD's era. The whole script had Russel all over it. Same inherent story beats, same basic companion motivation (wuv! ),

Right, because Steven Moffat has never written a Doctor Who story about companions and allies of the Doctor who are in love with him.

Gatiss wrote a World War II script for the fourth season that RTD ultimately didn't go forward with. I've wondered the past day or two how much of that script may have been recycled into "Victory of the Daleks." (I should note that, as far as I know, that rejected script did not involve the Daleks.)

Looks like the rule is going to be: when something's bad, keep blaming RTD as long as possible. If we like it, credit to Moffat.

In fact, credit and blame now both need to be attributed to the folks actually making the show now. This is fundamental.

Romance and romantic tension of one kind or another for the Doctor has been a strong component of Moffat's DW work for quite some time now. That's a good thing, and I'm more than willing to credit him rather than Davies with it. :techman:

And the RTD Knee-Jerk Defense Team enters the area! :guffaw:

Assume what you like about my statements. But, the fact remains that the companion having out-of-the-blue ogling for the Doctor, written specifically to be the "moment" in the episode where "emotions conquer all" is, by plot definition, Russel Davies. Whether you view that good or bad is your own backyard to play in. But, just because it's so obvious as to be pointed out, don't get your panties in a twist. Being observant and being critical are two different things. Perhaps some will learn that soon... ;)

Pretty much what it felt like. A Russel Davies-era script that was re-edited slightly to work in the 11th Doctor. Amy could have easily been Donna...

Nothing happened in this episode that couldn't happen in the first 5 minutes of any future Dalek story:

"How have the Daleks returned?!"
"We have this thing that made us some... now, let's get on with the real story..."

It did seem a bit off to be honest. I felt it should have been a bit more exciting, had a bit more pace to it, a bit more threat. I liked the scenes with the Daleks, reminded me of classic episodes but wondering how much of the episode was pinned on them changing their looks a little bit.

It does look like Moffat who signs off on all episodes wanted to just get Daleks out of the way and bring them back for use in the future. I would expect too seem them in the 2nd season finale in 2011 but I hope we get a non Dalek season next year.

I'd expect to see them in the season finale this year; they spent the episode's budget building five new Daleks, so Moffat's going to be getting his money's worth from them.

Agreed. Not only did it have the same campy, lightweight adventure feel of many RTD stories, but it was completely lacking the magical, fairytale feel of the first two eps.

I know Moffat can't write every episode, and every series has it's ups and downs. But I was really hoping he would have at least kept that focus and core idea the same throughout.

I agree, one episode isn't enough milk from these new Daleks.

Agree, that and the plot setup. They're off to do even more evil things, plus Amy not remembering the invasion. To me, this all points towards them being in the finale *this year*.

Well, it did have a version of the little wooden boy who became real.

I thought the disarming of the bomb was one of the better parts of the story. The professor should have been a bigger part of the story.
