I guess the difference is that Smith's Doctor doesn't seem to be aware when he's being cool or funny (and conversly things he's cool and funny when he's really not) Ten would have been insufferable in this!

Oh agreed! Soo agreed. I mean, I don't dislike Tennant, and I certainly welcome his unwavering enthusiasm for the role, but only a brilliantly entertaining doctor like Smith (or maybe Troughton or Tom) could have made this watchable..

You all realize this was an adaptation of a comic strip from the Doctor Who Magazine, starring Number Ten and Mickey Smith? I don't know if there was a bad guy upstairs or the romance angle, but it had pretty much the same gags. Even down to The Doctor leaving the Sonic Screwdriver next to the electric toothbrush, and Mickey shattering all of his teeth. Can you imagine THAT episode? Yikes. VERY glad we got this one instead....
