My understanding is that the first aired episode was in Canada on September 6th, followed two days later on NBC in America.

I enjoyed my yearly run of The Man Trap with almost that day commercials. Such an oddball episode when you know how the series would truly take shape. But a good, spooky and even sad episode. The ideal premiere? Maybe not, but I always loved it. Happy Anniversary Greatest Show Ever (shut up, it is too!)

If I had the time and $$ I'd go through Newspapers.com and search for and save all the original reviews. Agreed that "The Man Trap" was not the best episode to introduce Trek to the public (too bad "Corbomite Maneuver" was unavailable).

Just wanted to note in the midst of this awesome thread that I saw a lot of posts all around the Internet on Sunday and into Monday with (on Twitter, IG, etc.) the hashtag #StarTrekDay, and it looks to be becoming a thing in the same way that May 4th has become a day of celebration for Star Wars. So many people were on various websites I frequent - none of them Star Trek-focused like we are here - sharing what Star Trek means to them and how it's influenced their lives. I'm not ashamed to say that I was so happy that my beloved always-favorite TV show (and its spinoffs of course) was getting so much attention, and generating so many moving stories, that I actually got a bit choked up. :wah:  So we can look forward to this every September 8 now, I think!
