50 Days of Voyager

You will be missing a lot of Seska if you are skipping episodes in season 2. You see her character has a story arc. There will be a rather big plot point about her which will be obvious in Basics, but I don't think you have any of the episodes leading up to it.

What are the Seska episodes?

I`m glad you liked State of Flux. It`s one of my fav episodes in the early seasons. You also should watch Maneuvres. It`s also about Seska.

Day 5 - Projections

Pretty decent episode, I was entertained. The doctor can definitely carry a whole episode. Also nice to see Barclay again!

Tommorow (Day 6) I will be watching 2x10 Cold FIre.

Day 6 – Cold Fire

Ok, this was a cool episode. Kes and her powers are an interesting storyline. Plus this female Caretaker as a little girl. That was really creepy when her voice changed! Also I was sure Tuvok was dead. When he got boiled by Kes he looked like a goner to me. Man, that was some badass special effects!

Does the female Caretaker show up in any future episodes?

Day 7 I am taking Mareikas advice and adding an episode to my list and I will be watching 2x11 Maneuvers. I am hooked on this Seska character!

Don't have time to watch all 7 seasons. Just trying to watch the best ones.
Well you are missing significant ones in season 1 alone.

I would add "Phage" and "Faces" to introduce a great Alien race, the Vidians which will allow you to understand another great season 2 ep you've already included, "Deadlock".

Season 1's "State of Flux" also sets up a great season 2 ep, "Maneuvers" and explains why they get into the problem they do in "Basics" which IS on your list.

I understand "time crunches", but you do yourself a disservice by skipping many of these shows.

You do have to see Resolutions and Coda - no idea why nobody has pointed out the obvious yet  but maybe somebody has and I didn't see it.
Like suggested before: you really have to watch all of them, why limit yourself to 50?

This is my first time watching Voyager.

Captain Note: Since this is your first time watching Voyager, you have to watch all episodes in each seasons, no skipping any at first. As you go along through each seasons, episodes that you didn't care for/or didn't like type/or write down the title of the episode or if you can remember by episode titles in your head without having the list. That way you know what to skip when you watch Voyager the 2nd time in a few years. Try not to skip too many episodes in each seasons. Skipping 6 episodes is plenty to skip. Skipping 8 might be ok but no more than that. Skipping 10 episodes, your missing too much in a season.

Day 7 – Maneuvers

What the hell just happened? Chakotay is going to be a daddy? Seska is one insane ex girlfriend! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry right now? Was that the worst ending ever or the best ending ever? I cant tell if that makes perfect sense or no sense at all! Who would do that! I cant believe I almost skipped this episode. The first 99% percent was pretty decent entertainment and that last 1% was glorious ridiculousness. I liked it.

Hopefully tomorrows episode 2x18 Death wish will be just as crazy!

I was a big fan of TNG and DS9. I tried watching Voyager when it was on and just could not get into it. I realized the only way I will ever watch this is I just it down to 50-60 episodes. I am trying to keep it around 50 but the list is growing...

Day 8 – Deathwish

Meh. This didn’t really work for me. As a TNG fan I have seen enough Q. This just seemed like a rehash of TNG ideas. And the new Q was not nearly as entertaining as the original Q. The new one was really cheesy. Overall, not a great episode in my opinion.

Tomorrow I will try 2x21 Deadlock.

For someone on a crunch? no they don't. It's Fangirl fluff. Enjoyable for us but not poignant to the series.

Day 9 – Deadlock

Hell yeah! Now that is a great episode of Star Trek. Great drama, acting and action. Also a cool concept (not sure about the science) but it had me riveted. The Janeway talking to Janeway thing even worked and wasn’t lame or awkward. Too bad Ensign Kim survived but I guessed we would have to live with his bad acting for the rest of the series. Overall it was a fantastic episode.

Also I had some extra time so I decided to go back and watch Phage to see more of the Vidians. Not necessarily needed for Deadlock but does add some context to the Vidians situation.

Tomorrow I will be viewing 2x24 Tuvix.

Day 10 – Tuvix

Really cool episode. The Tuvix character was very convincing. I know this is one of the more discussed episodes of Voyager. The premise of Tuvok and Neelix becoming one person seems a bit cheesy on the surface. However this episode features some great dialogue, acting performances, and real moral tensions. Probably the most intellectually interesting and morally challenging episodes I have seen. I was pleasantly surprised with this episode.

Wrapping up season 2 tomorrow with Basics Part 1.

Day 11 – Basics Part 1 (and 2x16 Meld)

So I started Basics Part 1 but realized I was missing something with the officer confined to his quarters. Did a quick internet search and realized this was a result of things that happened in Meld. SO I watched Meld (which was a solid episode) and then continued with Basics.

The premise was a little thin (Janeway risking the entire Voyager ship for Chaqotais baby which was created from his stolen DNA….), but I got past that pretty quick. There was a lot of great action and it ended on great cliffhanger to the episode. Also that crazy Seska was back causing chaos!

Overall I enjoyed watching this abridged version of Seasons 1 and 2. The second season is generally regarded as the worst Voyager season but I found the good episodes to be quiet good. I believe the main problem is there are not many good ones! The abridged version I would recommend is:

Season 1
1x01 Caretaker Part 1
1x02 Caretaker Part 2
1x03 Parallax
1x05 Phage
1x07 Eye of the Needle
1x11 State of Flux

Season 2
2x03 Projections
2x10 Cold Fire
2x11 Maneuvers
2x16 Meld
2x21 Deadlock
2x24 Tuvix
2x26 Basics 1

Now, I am getting excited to be heading into Season 3! Tommorow I will watch 3x01 Basics 2.
