5 Things We Want to See in the next Movie according to PopMech

I like George Takei but I have to agree: stop being angry at Shat. Neither has a ton of years left and I'd like to look at both of them in the best light possible.

thank you for defending me I am glad people are understanding and agreeing with me. it is not rude or trolling to voice your dislike for an actor's antics and how they can affect their films.

I think it is interesting that you make this statement as shatner himself has said so. he said that he and takei do not have much time left on earth and this is why He, shatner has moved on from the one sided feud.

Takei is the one still holding a grudge, bashing shatner any chance he gets. its sad and disappointing and for this reason if Takei is in trek 3, it could turn me off as a film viewer regardless of the fact that I am a trek fan.

Thank you for defending me, I am still new to this site and I do not understand the laws. Its like any criticism you give is seen as an attack and an insult in this site and it makes little sense to me. I do not intend to be rude.

I criticized George Takei, what mshark maybe fails to realize is that at times, an actor can affect the outcome of a film when he plays a character in the film.

A perfect example is Tom Cruise and all his antics about Scientology and his attack on Brooke Shields. It undoubtedly affected his box office and Paramount had to cut ties with him.

I can also proof this point with ben affleck and jennifer lopez with their ill fated film called Gigli. there romance was overexposed and it affacted the film badly. people did not see the film just as many of tom cruise fans who were largely women did not see some of his film from year 2005 due to his behavior in the media.

I at times am one of those people. An actor's antics in the public/media can turn me off when I see him as a character in film and this is why I am lukewarm on Takei coming back to Star Trek films. I do not like all his Shatner bashing in the media. infact it reminds me of tom cruise bashing brooke shields. I will stay away from Takei works as I did with Tom Cruise.

Willam Shatner seems to be the classier guy of the two, He has wished Takei well in life. Takei is still the one doing the bashing and this is why I will prefer of William to come back instead of Takei.

I hope I have explained my points a lot better.

I don't believe anyone has said that you were rude or trolling or attacking or insulting. I know I certainly haven't said any such thing.

What I did point out was that the subject of the supposed feud between Takei and Shatner really has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. It's also a subject which properly belongs in either the TOS forum or the General Trek Discussion forum, and doesn't belong here*. If you wish to have a discussion about it, great, but you should start a thread expressly about that topic in one of those forums and refrain from dragging this thread any further off-topic with it than you already have.

If you're unsure about board rules, you can consult the FAQ which is linked at the top of every page, or you can ask by posting a thread in the Questions, Suggestions & Feedback forum, which is provided for that purpose. Or just ask the forum moderators; they're usually trying to help you get it right.

* Nor do Tom Cruise, Scientology, Bennifer or Gigli.

I feel xavier is in the right disclosing why he (in particular) doesn't want to see Takei in the next movie in a thread discussing the "5 Things We Want to See in the next Movie", with one of the "Things" being "A George Takei Cameo". I definitely wouldn't say it has nothing to do with this topic.

I don't know why they think they need to have cameos at all. Spock was a big part of the original 2009 story, and that goes all the way back to TNG with Reunification. I think it was an appropriate send off because his ultimate task was to go to Romulus in the hopes of making peace...even though he knew it probably wouldn't succeed in his lifetime.

So why did they have Spock in Into Darkness? That scene added nothing to the movie at all. I mean there are more momentous things than Khan in the galaxy. How about the Planet Killer, space juggernauts, the Guardian of Forever, and so on? Are they just going to Skype with Spock every time they run across something new? He had a good sendoff in the first one. Let's not drag it out.

I got a huge kick out of Nimoy's cameo. Spock warning his younger self about Khan? That's pretty damn awesome.

It also answered a question fans had about Spock's future knowledge. Now we know he's taken a vow not to reveal anything - unless it's especially huge.

I'm in agreement to a certain point. Yes, he had a good send off, but it would would be questionable if there was no acknowledgement that primeSpock was still there. It could go either way, and I don't see either choice being good.

I liked the cameo, in that I thought it was fun. Likewise, another cameo, Takei, Nichols, Koeing (doubtful) would be equally as fun. I was thinking something along the lines of rapid aging or a mirrored reflection (nor mirror universe, but the idea of how time lines would unfold). Just off the top of my head, but I think it would be fun.

Fun, guys. Trek should be fun too ;)

  • Most moviegoers don't give a fuck about those actors.
  • Takei's probably not worth tickets sold into four figures.
  • #1 on that list is the only one I give a fuck about.
  • Fuck.

Large part or small part, who is George Takei going to pull in to see the movie who wouldn't otherwise go see it?

Would giving him a cameo be a sweet and sentimental thing to do? I suppose. Then maybe they could create a list of former Trek actors to be given cameos in future Trek movies. Frakes, Stewart, Koenig, Nichols, Spiner, and so on. But why? To what real end?

Unless there's a part that actually fits George Takei's talents, I'd rather him not be in the film (or any other former Trek actor). I don't need bones thrown to me as a fan of TOS. I'm going to see the movie no matter what.

I agree. Like I said, there are several plots that could involve the older actors being brought it. Even Star Trek Phase 2 (I think, or New Voyages) was able to have Walter Koening come in as a prematurely aging Chekov.

I don't think it is necessary for the movie to succeed, nor should it be done as a cameo for cameo's sake, like Stan Lee does. Rather, it should all be done in service to the story.

I personally would enjoy Takei's appearance, but it is not a requirement.

If they pulled Anton Yelchin, would the box office numbers suffer terribly? The question with Takei's presence is would it increase the movie goers enjoyment of the future movie, I believe the answer is yes.

To those viewers who don't know who he is, it would be no different than seeing another actor in the role played by Takei, but there would be a number of fans in the audience as well and they would recognize him and their enjoyment would rise. A certain number of not fans would know who he is too.

Excellent idea.

:)

5 Things I want to see in the next movie are as follows:

► Jim Kirk marrying the pregnant Carol Marcus, who's carrying twins
► The use of the Genesis Torpedo to reconstitute planet Vulcan
► T'Pring and Sybok seeking out Spock
► Sybok, though emotional, isn't a religious nut, this time
► T'Pring and Uhura have a catfight over Spock. Who'd win?
