5 Things We Want to See in the next Movie according to PopMech

Pine could deliver a "risk is our business" type speech
I wish he would, more Shatner, less Stewart, in terms of style.

One of my favorite moments of ST Twelve was the speech he gave at the end in front of the seated audience, very nice.

So maybe not that exact setting, but a thoughtful speech where Kirk briefly steps back from being a action star.

Or just have Chris Pine read the preamble to the constitution.

:)

The 1 thing I want to see is Kirk marry Carol Marcus, so that they can feed & water his seed - together. A married James T. Kirk would further give the reboot its own identity and it would only add to the texture of the character, to finally see him as both a career STARFLEET officer AND a Family Man. I'm confident that this will, indeed, play out in the next movie ...

I wanna see Strange New Worlds and that's it. I'm sick of cameos and fan-service. I'm tired of women treated as little more than eye-candy. Klingons are tired (and are Romulans, etc., etc.)...

That's not fair to the new viewers. They should know what major powers that are established in the 'nu' universe. I hope they do show Romulans in the next movie and the Gorn too (they're strange new world to them), as well as new life and new civilizations.

Why? General audiences want entertaining movies not a fill in the blanks of the geopolitical map of the galaxy.

I wanna see a Orion Syndicate controlling an area of space bordering the Klingon Empire. A independent trading post.

I wanna see something about Gorn Impire as part of "Strange New Worlds"

Who's to say the Romulans and the Gorn won't be entertaining?

I want to see trek 3 succeed by any mean necessary so if they want to go down the family fun root like The Voyage home then I am fine with that. if they want to go down the dark and gritty root then I am fine with that as well. I just wish Orci the best. it is not going to be easy been a first time director and working with a budget of 150-200m dollars.

If they use the Gorn, at least make them consistent with TOS. I don't want to see a "reimagining". :klingon:

This IS your father's Gorn! IT'S THE SAME GORN!!!

^... complete with visible zippers on a rubber suit... NO. Let's bring these aliens up-to-date, IF we are to use them at all.

...
5- Takei would be good to use in a role which is important to the plot. He is an excellent Trek actor and positive role model for gay people everywhere. Perhaps his character is also gay... as has been said, "In a SUBTLE way"...
Bi maybe. He has a kid before Kirk was "lost" in Generations.
As stated, Takei's CHARACTER in TOS movies had a child. Many gay people have children, however, so that is a non-issue. I did not state that he should reprise his role. This would be a re-hash of an already overused plot device. Takei should play a new character.
Pine could deliver a "risk is our business" type speech before heading into a dangerous mission, be it a first contact situation, battle, or covert operation. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

On second thought, does Shatner do master classes? ;)
If he does, let us hope Mr. Pine declines to attend.

Instead of a big war perhaps we will have to give some thought to doing something similar a "Balance of Terror".
A Klingon ship with cloaking device making an incursion in Federation space.

Yeah that is all they need. A small scale conflict or even a war can be done right as long as they do it right. DS9 worked because they had plenty of time for a developing situation.

 Obviously I'm not talking about things like zippers. But it should look like the same race. A timeline split in 2233 shouldn't be taken as an excuse to change literally anything.

In other words, no Blingorns.

You know what was cool about the space battles on TOS? That they were few and far between. The Enterprise fired infrequently. Even if the third movie is action packed, it doesn't have to be the Enterprise herself in battle or war. There are lots of of other cool and less overdone action moments they could invent (much as the orbital skydive was in 09).

Very good point, Maurice. :techman:

I like this idea, even if I don't think the timing is right.

It certainly follows the first movie, when Kirk's parents had their family on a starship. It would also represent Kirk coming full circle in other ways, for example, Carol would be some sort of stability for him, so he wouldn't be such an Annie Skywalker all the time. Now, Kirk has the responsibility of Command and Family to make him more of a Man. Having Kirk snog every woman in the galaxy was cool, to start with, but this woman is carrying his child in STAR TREK 3, surely. Turning him into a deadbeat dad isn't the way to go ...

But she'll die, pregnant, and Kirk will turn to the Dark Side...oh, eh, wrong franchise. (Backs slowly out of the thread  )

nuKirk strangling his pregnant wife ... really not the way to go.

:)
I wouldn't place too much emphasis on the Annie/Kirk connection. Behold! Annie is a Heel with sex appeal, whereas Kirk is a Hero whose charm the women of the galaxy simply cannot resist. They are both Bad Boys, in a sense - looking for trouble & adventure, each in their own way. It's how they find it and what they intend on doing about it that sets them apart. How they are with their women is a good case in point:

When Annie strangled his pregnant wife using his Magical Powers, he did so only because he's Eeeeevil! James Tiberious Kirk is not. In fact, the only magic he knows happens in the bedroom. That's how David was conceived in the "Prime Universe," it seems. And whilst she carries Kirk's Fruit in her womb, she's all but guaranteed of Kirk treating her like a beautiful, fragile flower, with NO strangulations - magical, or otherwise! If the reboot wants to continue in its efforts to make TREK more STAR WARSY, superficially, then Kirk & Carol can have twins. Why not? His seed is that potent ...
