5 Things We Want to See in the next Movie according to PopMech

Strange New Worlds - Yes.
A story about the actual work of exploring and the mystery and wonder that exists out there. Like TVH, the "foe" was a puzzle that needed to be solved, not fought.

All-Out, Massive-Scale War - No.
A space battle is ok, but please, one where the ship's shields actually do what they were designed to do. Unless they are willing to do something different with the war plot, just leave it out.

Klingons - No.
They are tired and over-used, even with their new bling.

More Sexy Alien Ladies - Yawn.
Is there any need for this literal fanboy wank? We get it, Kirk is a horndog, whose poor conduct forces his chief nurse to quite and should've faced sexual harassment proceedings after perving on Marcus--though admittedly, she is asking to ogled in the scene.

A George Takei Cameo - No.
I'm not even wanting them to facetime old Spock, bringing in another TOS character is just unneeded.

I just don't know why so many want to see an all out guts and glory battle.

Probably because we've generally been denied that, especially in light of the longstanding ST trope of "only one ship in the area".

This. And give us some real phasers. This timeline may have developed Ludicrous Speed and Earth-to-Kronos transporting, but they seem to be way behind in the phaser department.

Pine could deliver a "risk is our business" type speech before heading into a dangerous mission, be it a first contact situation, battle, or covert operation. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

On second thought, does Shatner do master classes? ;)

There was a Trek show that gave us regular large-scale guts and glory battle, IIRC. Didn't save it in the ratings.

I like the new films, and I'm glad that that Trek is going forward with bringing in new fans.

That said, I'd like to see the current cast in TOS uniforms on the sets of P2 or Continues. Even if it was only for a one-shot thing, like a vignette. You know, for the 50th anniversary.

That would be cool.

I always thought it would be neat to redo one of the animated episodes with new animation and the voices of the current cast.

A story about the human condition, well-written for grownups and not a lot of kewl stuff.

Chances? nil

Trek '09 was better that Darkness as far as story, due to its follow/fight your destiny parallels w/ Kirk and Spock. I still can't watch it again (too pew-pew kewl and hyperkinetic for my tastes), but I respect it.

Well the characters are young, so the type of drama is bound to be a different type than we're used to. I do like that they have given the supporting cast so much to do, and their youth actually works out better! Chekov was more interesting in 09 than he ever was in the rest of the series. The characters are definitely interesting.

Also the technobabble has improved drastically all around. It used to be something I never cared about, but at least now it isn't stale. Into Darkness had plot problems, but the parts involving tech were the one thing that was solid in all of it.

If you have to have an a out war I'd rather the enemy not be Klingons or Romulans or any of the 24th century villains.
I'd even like the Federation in alliance with the Klingons and Romulans against a common enemy. Have someone like the female Romulan Commander and Kang or Kor come together with Kirk and Tracey (a good guy this time) or a female Federation Captain to defy headquarters and work together. But leave this to the end of the movie with an open ending.

IMO we were robbed when we didn't get to see the Narada tear through the cadet fleet in ST09. Would not have worked with the plot though.

I wanna see Strange New Worlds and that's it. I'm sick of cameos and fan-service. I'm tired of women treated as little more than eye-candy. Klingons are tired (and are Romulans, etc., etc.). Space battles are less interesting than seeing the characters in physical action, and we're already seen the Enterprise get blown apart. It's already yawn inducing.

That's not fair to the new viewers. They should know what major powers that are established in the 'nu' universe. I hope they do show Romulans in the next movie and the Gorn too (they're strange new world to them), as well as new life and new civilizations.

It would be a mistake to introduce a new species at this point in the timeline and try to pass them off as 'major'.

I still want Romulans. There's plenty of untapped story potential.... What is the 23rd Century Romulan reaction to learning that Romulus will eventually be destroyed? Aren't they interested in anything related to the Narada? After all, it is *their* future technology...

This would also set up a pretty nice 3 part story arc, if the next film is to be the last with this crew.

Instead of a big war perhaps we will have to give some thought to doing something similar a "Balance of Terror".
A Klingon ship with cloaking device making an incursion in Federation space.

I'd like to see Spock shoot a three-headed snake creature just to canonize that model so many of us have on the shelf.

Why is that important in a movie? What's important is to tell a good story, not fill it the geopolitics of the fictional universe.

As to space battles, we've already had two movies with spaceships blasting each other. Enough. Or does everyone just want the same tired action beats over and over?
