5 Doctor Who characters for spin offs

The Wilfred Mott Adventures

Oooh, River, Canton and Mott on an adventure together, and throw in Jenny and Mdme Vastra to boot :bolian:

With that line up, you're 1 or 2 away from this:

;)

^ Maybe he could have a limited role, like Charlie in "Charlie's Angels", except it would be "Wilfred's Angels" and instead of being a voice on a speaker, he'd just appear on a vid-screen ("'Ello, swee'earts, here's what I've got for you this week"), and his time-and-space angels would go on their crime-busting missions. :D

Rani and Clyde, RANI and CLYDE!

Or MAdame Vastra and Jenny...

Or let's not have another Who spinoff, maybe let's make an original sci-fi show?

Clyde and Rani would be cool. Someone's gotta fight all the aliens who land in the UK. (It's like a bloody alien magnet!!!!)

Ugh, if there's a River Song spin-off I'll hate myself for watching it.

I think River works because of her connection to the Doctor, not separately.

The only one that sounds interesting is the Canton Everett Delaware one, because it's the only one that wouldn't be what we've seen before. Both Torchwood and Sarah Jane gave us alien threats in the present day; let's do something different for once.

Canton Everett Delaware III. How many people could have that name? Well, I suppose three.

Alternatively, the Silurian Sherlock Holmes would work. Also historical. Plus, she's an alien.

And like just about everything else Syfy touches, that list is thirteen types of Fail.

Not that I wouldn't like to see them turn up on DW again, or hell, even in a one-shot special. But I don't see any of them carrying their own series without turning it into a weak Torchwood or SJA clone.

None of them would fly.

Madam Vastra, OTOH...

Or Clyde and Rani...

Now this otoh...

I think any of them could carry a spin off. If someone had asked you, prior to Frasier, if that character could carry a spin off for 11 years, would you have said yes? Would you have believed them if they'd said that a Frasier spin off would be as successful (maybe more so) that it's parent show? Granted, that's one of the best examples of a successful spin off, probably the standard by which all others should really be judged. So, thinking of that, what made Frasier Successful? Well, he was still pretty much the same character, but obviously he got a very strong new cast to support him in his new show with likeable and loveable characters, a new and interesting location with lots of avenues for interesting, funny and exciting situations.

Personally I think the Canton character has the most chance of success out of all of these. With Martha, unless you put her in a very different situation, you're just going to get more of the same. With River, she's already so intertwined with the Doctor I don't think you could really seperate her easily. The Sally Sparrow idea isn't bad, though you'd need a few more characters than just her and Larry to make it interesting. Liz X... hm, not sure, if it's still on Starship UK then I see a very Deep Space Nine/Babylon 5 Vibe which has been done before.

Regardless, i think the chances are slim of any of these actually getting off the ground, but who knows.

But to build a series around him? At least with Canton, Vastra and Lix X you'd get to set it in a different era, but spinning off Martha or Sally wouldn't be any different than Torchwood or Sarah Jane Adventures.

I still give thanks to the great Gods of TV that we never got, shudder, Rose Tyler: Defender of the Earth.
