4 Clip descriptions from Empire *Spoiler heavy*

This sounds pretty awesome. Though it seems Kirk is entering the Acadamy after Sulu, Uhura, etc. Now that's going to make some heads spin.

That's as far as I read. Uhura is ordering Cardassian drinks? Referance to Cardassians in the 23rd century?

COCKFUCKERY!!!!

The problem here is what?

Oh, you're absolutely right. After all, it's not as if the Federation had no contact with the Cardassians in the 23rd century.

Oh wait, they didn't. And that is the problem.

Huh? First contact between Cardassians and Starfleet was in the 22nd century.

I am seeing something interesting however, about where Kirk is being raised, since he is talking with Starfleet Cadets, and is able to ride up and see the Enterprise being built in San Fran.

Perhaps as a kid, he lives in Iowa with his mother and father. When his father is transferred to the Kelvin, he and his mother move to Tarsus IV, where the incident with the Kelvin and Nero occurs, and Pike makes the statement about George Kirk saving 800 lives. He and his mother in their grief move back to San Francisco and thats where he grows up as a teen.

I find it hard to believe these clowns have ever even seen Star Trek, the continuity violations are so blatant.

Given the rather absurd hyperbole of your avatar and location field, such an extreme reaction as this ... isn't terribly surprising.

It sounds a lot better than Enterprise: First Adventure.

And, we must realize the big "CLUE" that this Star Trek has been affected by Nero time travelling previously: the USS Kelvin destruction, and something at Kirk's birth, at least.

So, take everything with a grain of salt. We're seeing it 'adjusted'.

That the same destiny ends up happening bring Kirk and Spock together, with McCoy at their side... that's the heart of Star Trek.

Methinks JJ and boborci and the rest of the Supremes have distilled it to its essence... and made a movie that the general public can enjoy.

Yes, I don't exactly care for Hayden C. Kirk.. or Anakirk... or Obi-Wan Pike... but it'll be interesting.

Man that sounds awesome. I am really excited about this movie. I've been a Trek fan for most of my life, and I'm really excited about this new movie and the possible new direction we're going.

It really does sound like good Star Trek. So far.

And to those who have a issues with the canon changes; it's a reboot, it's not the same as the old, so this is the new canon. Why are people surprised when they find out about changes?

Well I imagine our friend Capt. April is upset since Abrams seems to be wiping him out of existence. I would think that would make anyone cranky.

I can't wait to see some images of the Enterprise under construction on Earth. Yes from a truely technical standpoint, it makes one wonder why they are constructing it on Earth and not in space, but from a filmmakers and artistic standpoint....its gonna look fucking cool.

Huh? Where do you get that from? Although a date has neven been established for when contact between the Federation and Cardassians has been made, it's always been implied to be between TOS and TNG.

Yikes, this all reads as pretty crappy -- short on brains and long on stunts and SFX, with enough teen angst cliches to be a series on the WB. And I thought Abrams said he wanted to avoid dorkiness? Scotty sounds like a paragon of geek humor. Perhaps it will play better than it sounds.

Well I can't think of where you might be getting that implication from off the top of my head, but if you know please correct away. And since it hasn't been established that leaves it open for establishment, doesn't it? Besides, it's a throwaway line meant to appease us Trekkers rather than insult us. I'm inclined to believe good faith on the filmmakers' behalf rather than crucify them for it.

Of all the things to fixate on, it's a drink? Nothing about Kirk meeting Pike? Of every other little detail in this collection of scenes, that's the only blatant violation of canon, but it's not that big.

The Deadly Years - Kirk states that he is 34 years old.
Who Mourns for Adonais - Chekov states that he is 22 years old.

Cut to: The bridge where Captain Pike asks the “Russian whizkid” at the helm what his name is. It’s Ensign Chekov. Cue a comedy sequence where Chekov attempts to enter an authorization code into the computer, announcing “nine, five, wictor, wictor, two” in a perfect Walther Koenig exaggerated Russian accent and being denied. Chekov goes on to address the ship over the comm., stating that anomaly has been detected in the neutral zone, a lightning storm in space. A distress signal from the Vulcan (“wulcan”) high command has caused the Enterprise to go and investigate.

This was my concern with using all seven characters in a Kirk origin tale. It makes no sense that a character that is twelve years younger than Kirk already being a bridge officer.

Not to mention the fact that evidenty the Enterprise is only three years old when Kirk first shows up. Definitely steals some of the non-canon thunder from the Chris Pike. Plus, poor Robert April no longer exists.

DS9 mentions a Cardassian poet living on Vulcan in the 22nd century.

I've always considered that a continuity anomaly which I've ignored.
