3D interiors in Blender

For an upcoming Galaxy Chronices installment, this art commission was done for me using the transporter room set that Rekkert did for me:

I've done a quick redress commission for @Rusty0918 , the Miranda-Class USS Shockley NCC-21165; a "ship of the week" which will appear in the 'Galaxy Chronicles'. Some of the elements are inspired on its sister ship, the USS Brattain (Shockley and Brattain were co-inventors of the transistor), such as the green color of the walls (same exact shade as the TNG transporter room) and the details on the aft console mirroring the console behind the captain on the Brattain.
Unlike the canon ship however, the Shockley has the same physical configuration as the USS Saratoga from DS9, with the sensor pods at each side of the hull rather than the rollbar.
During this commission I took the chance of redoing the Enterprise-C style Captain's chair, making the sides one continuous piece rather than two as they were before.

I have another redress coming up for him, though it'll be a somewhat more involved one.

I was wondering about the bulkheads that separate the wall consoles. Do you think changing them to a tng cream/beige (to complement the floor) would be a good udea? It might help highlight the rest of the greens by adding contrast.

I like this bridge quite a bit - still recognisably a Constitution layout, but updated over the years into tng era technology. Gotta love a workhorse :)

I like the green, too. It gives the Bridge a utilitarian look; a bit like an old,1950's hospital interior. Maybe if you lean it a little more towards olive-drab?

The grey parts feel a little out-of-place. Looking at color-theory, I'm thinking a split-complementary triad suggests a de-saturated purple color might go well on this bridge.

Oh yes, from a color theory standpoint, this certainly isn't the most... harmonious color combination I've made. It was mostly made to try and tie the ship aesthetic-wise to the Brattain, with its similarly colored green walls, grey consoles and beige carpets. The red tones arguably makes the combination even less harmonious; however those were requested for this bridge, and I do feel like it's something we could've seen on a TNG "ship of the week", considering how many different color combinations we've seen for Starfleet interiors.

I've started work on the mentioned second redress for Rusty0918, which is the 2376 version of the USS Galaxy battle bridge.

This one is a substantial redress of the Odyssey bridge, with an added level for the Captain's chair, completely different door alcoves, and a new back wall taking some elements from the Bradbury bridge. I still have several key bits to change, including all the floor light sources to a different style and color.

I know it's a bit dark for now, but things will light up considerably once I add the LCARS back in, not to mention tweak the grate light effects.

I can instantly tell when this is a Rusty commission. Looking good so far. I even like the darkness level. The battle bridge on the Enterprise was never what I'd call well lit.

@ashefivekay: True, they were always rather dark, still some more lighting wouldn't hurt. ;)

@valkyrie013: Haha, I will actually add a replicator somewhere... whenever I can figure out where...

I've modified the grate lights a bit, adding an emissive plane on top of the point light, so that the dark areas aren't completely black as they were before. The back area's still quite dark though, I might have to add additional lights in there.

I've also started adding the LCARS back in, and modified the aft buttresses to have a Prometheus-style cutout.

That's actually a fire extinguisher, one of the hallmarks of my commissions. When your fire suppression system goes down, it's best to have a backup!
Especially when you have a fleet commander ready to blow your ship to smithereens.
:)

There are many times in DS9 and Voyager where they wish they'd have fire extinguishers at the ready. Picard and crew would have been able to save the Stargazer had they had fire extinguishers!

@Rusty0918: They do have manual fire extinguishers at the ready in DS9, I've been rewatching the series and they mention them or use them heavily when the Defiant gets damaged. There's even a bit of dialogue that goes
Nog:"Fire supression system offline!"
Worf:"Use the manual extinguishers"
Nog:"I'm on it!"

Likewise, I assume that every ship has them at the ready, just hidden behind panels (like oxygen masks in planes). Voyager has them available this way, as was shown on 'Caretaker'.

As for the Stargazer, as stated on the episode it had suffered massive damage to most systems, it wasn't a case of extinguishing fire on a consoles (we know consoles themselves don't matter, systems can be rerouted to any console on board the ship). In fact we see Picard calling for 'Fire Control Parties', which means that fire extinguishers are readily available on board.

Going back to the battle bridge, I've swapped the floor lighting panels to the curvier version from the last battle bridge, and made the lighting there blue.

We’ve seen fire extinguishers used before in Star Trek, ST: Insurrection comes to mind. Like Rekkert stated they’re just normally hidden from view...

I decided to work on a personal project during the weekend. I received a commission request for a Lantree style bridge, aka an inverted TNG battle bridge. That commission is still a long way off (if it happens, as it's not confirmed), but it did start a little spark of inspiration in me. I decided to do something like it all the same.

I wanted to go for a non-canon, smallish TMP era craft, so I ended up choosing the Merced-Class as depicted at ASDB. This is a favorite of mine, having previously done a schematic style graphic for it. That last bit was a big deciding factor, as it meant I already had the basis for any ship specific okudagrams I'd need.

Given the date of launch and registry, I went for an Enterprise-B style (though with a bigger budget, I'm not planning on using any boat seats here). It's still very much unfinished, as you can see, it's just an idea for now. When I continue with it, I'll probably remove that hideous brown, it doesn't look as good on such a simpler design as it does on the busier Excelsior-Class bridge. I might rework the area behind the Captain's chair as well, it looks like a lot of wasted space right now.

As ever, ideas, comments, and critiques welcome.

That's a really cool design idea. My only critique is really for any of the TNG era bridges where you use that helm chair. It's a cool chair, but it always looks anachronistic to me. It's too new and I never believe it would be a part of a set from the design era.
