360 price cuts on all hardware in September?? Hmmm...

"
Early Sept price reduction on X360 hardware:

  • Arcade (no hard drive) to $199
  • Pro (60GB) to $299
  • Elite (120GB) to $399
We should also expect hardware and game bundles for all hardware versions coming in the fourth quarter, just in time for the holidays.
In addition, the mole revealed that the upcoming release of Forza 2 Platinum Hits will include all the DLC tracks that were made for the title, which is a good way to add value to the game.

The last time the mole talked to me, before he became a super-villain, he told me the 60GB model of the hardware was coming, and he was right on the money with that one. Those prices should be considered rumors, but I'd be very surprised if this wasn't accurate information. Very sexy pricing."

Glad to see that Forza 2 will include all that DLC. My forza 2 disc has been scratched to non-function so I might pick that up

Why wouldn't they announce this at E3? Why hold this back at all?

And anyway, it almost makes buying an actual 60 gig 360 worth more than just buying the 60 gig drive on its own. I know I have to buy an HDD anyway, but yeesh... If they do this, I hope they go ahead and drop the accessory prices too.

Announcing a price drop scheduled for September in July would have KILLED their sales until the price drop actually went into effect.

As for cheaper accessory prices, good luck convincing Microsoft to do that...

Will the cheap ones be the new ones that don't overheat as much?

My New monitor has a display switch and a VGA input/HDMI input, I wanna hook a X360 up to it and use it like a Gaming PC.

July was only ONE day ago...

The price drops reported in the OP aren't confirmed by Microsoft yet, and probably won't be until they actually happen.

Well, they won't be confirmed until some clerk at Circuit City sees it anyway.
Still, it's not like July and August are hot months for console sales anyway, and they've been losing ground for the last few rounds of NPDs. A price drop at E3 going into effect at E3 would have been a more meaningful statement than the 20GB price shuffle and maybe would have moved some consoles now.
I suppose they need to get 60GBs into the channel, but they could have just dropped the 20GB to the current Arcade price.

I don't know, if anything, I'd be pissed if I bought a 20GB now thinking that I was getting some kind of deal... it'd be as worse as the 2 month iPhone price drop or the fact that in a year, the 60GB PS3 dropped to the price of the 20GB PS3.

Yeah, when Nintendo AND Sony let you use SD cards while MS makes you buy their expensive memory cards, you kind of realize that MS pretty much wants to make you buy their crap.

Dropping the price on 360 hardware to $200/300/400 is something Microsoft should of done a long time ago.

I must admit that i am also a bit pissed off with MS at the moment because with this new update coming out that allows you to store your 360 games on the HD, i like everybody else with the now useless 20GIG HD will not be able to use the feature unless we either cough money up for a new HD or buy a new console package......MS should be at least offering people with the now useless 20gig version(which is one 13gig in reality) some type of money off exchange for a bigger HD because their HD prices are just ridicules.

My point is that my 20gig 360 wont be able to do it anyway whether i want to or not, its just too small, i mean with everything deleted from the drive except saves games i have just under 5 gig lefts.... so for me and everybody else with the 20gig version we wont be able to use this feature which would be a god send, no more noisy DVD drive and no more scratched discs, plus we wont get the benefits of the obvious quicker loading times that will come from games being on the HD........As much as I'm a big fan of the 360 i am now beginning to get annoyed with MS and their constant changing of the goal posts, i mean my god which generation of console has ever had to see people buy the same console twice to actually get the benefits of upgrade hardware revisions and now the ability to use firmware updates.

MS could solve this by dropping the price of their HD or doing some type of part exchange like they did with the elite, but i don't see that happening.

I'm not sure why Microsoft and Sony are obsessed with the 2.5" HDD form factor in devices that aren't portable. If they were working with 3.5" HDDs we could have 500GB+ of storage by now. I can't see that the additional size/weight is a serious concern, it's not like Wii is dominating the market because it's smaller than PS3/X360. The only real advantage I can see for 2.5" HDDs in a game console is that they generally have higher shock tolerances than 3.5" drives.

Or Microsoft could've created a console without an optical drive that scratches discs and sounds like it's about to take off, thereby removing most of the incentives for the feature in the first place...
