$33million in 29 hours in North America

i was hoping for higher, but sounds like it'll beat the estimates of $60m.

Also, this:

I hear the studio is celebrating international figures already: how "it's pretty spectacular" that Star Trek's debut in the UK, Australia, and Germany made almost the same as Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine's in those territories last weekend. Star Trek opened day and date in 54 countries Friday, and the goal of this new pic was to finally attract more filmgoers overseas. "Remember, this movie franchise has never done $100M international before," an exec reminds me tonight.

These numbers are absolutley fantastic for Star Trek, don't be dissappointed or let anyone else tell you otherwise.

I think Trek can add $50 million from overseas to the $77 Million from North America. We are looking at a $127 million opening weekend worldwide. This is only a guess though, except for the NA numbers which we know.

You know ... If we take that all the Trek fans probably saw Nemesis once, and only once, and that film made US$42 million, and this film is being seen by the Trek fans at least 2-3 times, that has to be a major boost, along with everyone else we can take along with us.
Seeing it for the 2nd time this afternoon BTW!

Some Trek fans will have skipped Nemesis as well because they had had enough, the casual fans didn't even bother with Nemesis... it was just diehards.

I'm definitely seeing it a couple more times. There's just far too much in the film to fully digest after one viewing. Hopefully a lot of people will think that as well.

SBS news (Australia) just ran a story about the film. I didn't catch the full introduction by the newslady (Lee Lin Chin) as we were in the middle of dinner, but I think she said the movie is on track to smash box-office records in some way.

Hi all,

http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/smason/2009/05/08/star-trek-estimates/

Star Trek just nabbed $33million after little more than 1 day in wide release.

$7mil on Thursday and $26mil on Friday in North America.

$70mil now seems a formality with the weekend gross now expected to be in the high $70mil mark.

This is huge news for the franchise, and something tells me Paramount is on the phone with JJ this morning saying....."When can we sit down and talk? What are you doing tonight? Can we have film #2 done by 2011?"

Trek Lives.
