On the Jimmy Kimmel show airing after the finale they will show 3 alternate endings.

I wonder if this will be 3 endings different from the actual one or 2 + the actual one.

I would love to be in America that day to watch the whole evening.

Following the final episode of "Lost," Jimmy Kimmel will host a one-hour post-show discussion and celebration of the beloved series, SUNDAY, MAY 23 at 12:05 a.m., ET on ABC, following local news.

I'm shocked. I'm amazed. I can't freaking believe... that Jimmy Kimmel has managed to stay on the air for seven years.

Jus' kiddin'. Sometimes he's funny. Somehow, though, he never got funnier than when he was on that stupid game show with Ben Stein.

I hope these are just fake alternate endings made up to throw off people looking for spoilers or as jokes.

Because if they are real alternate endings then it would just prove that they never knew how it was all going to end in the first place and that they (or the studio or the network) had to go back and change the ending a few times to find one that people could agree on.

It sucks when they do that with movies (like when, for example, an original ending called for the hero to die but a test group thought it was "too dark" so they go back and refilm the ending so the hero lives (like they did with True Romance and numerous other films) or the studio thinks the ending is to confusing so they make the creators dumb it down).

I want the show to end with the original ending they always had planned, not some weak compromise forced on them by the powers that be.

I don't think the studio has interfered with anything they've done since the pilot. If they have, it's never been mentioned. And they've done some crazy stuff.

They made several alternate endings for the season 4 finale. They shot scenes with Sawyer and Desmond each in the coffin in addition to the one with Locke. I think they were done as decoys to keep the real ending from being known if anything leaked out. I'm not sure. If that's the case, maybe that's what these alternate endings are... Decoys.

Because if they are real alternate endings then it would just prove that they never knew how it was all going to end in the first place and that they (or the studio or the network) had to go back and change the ending a few times to find one that people could agree on.

Actually I would think that the presence of alternate endings is to prevent anyone from leaking the real ending in case the footage gets out. Even the actors aren't told which ending is the true one. I believe they did this with one of the season finales or premieres but I can't remember which one.

The fake alternate endings should riff on how other shows ended. Like Jack wakes up, but he's his Party of Five character and talks about the weird dream he had.

According to Lindelof and Cuse, there's only one ending. The alternate endings are presumably goofy comedy skits.

There was also that time when the makers of "Life On Mars" (the original version that is) stated that they had filmed an alternative ending when, much later, they admitted that they actually didn't make one after all, and the "announcement" was an elaborate bluff.
