24th Century Scout Ships

Has anyone come across a small scout ship design from the mid 24th century? I'm thinking like a successor to the Archer-Class, small ship with a small crew, from just before TNG. There is the Raven-type, though it's not really fitting with what I have in mind.

Any suggestions or advice welcome.

The mini-Defiant Data had in “Insurrection” was called a Scout ship…perhaps a bit more potent than the large shuttle docked to it in extremis. Freedom or Niagara on the upper end?

The craft used by the parents of Seven-of-Nine maybe

The Insurrection scout ship was from the 2370's. I think the OP was looking for something in the 2350's pre-TNG.

I think the Freedom class (clearly meant to invoke the Hermes class scout from the FJ Tech Manual) would be a good candidate. Unfortunately it's not small like the Archer class.

I do like the Freedom-Class, something about the single nacelle just appeals to me (maybe for another story).

For what I'm thinking about at present, I'm looking for something that would have a crew of around 15, at most 4 decks and under 100m in length, something that the wars with the Cardassians and Tzenkethi brought about (a little ship that's hard to spot for carrying out remote reconaissance during wartime but could also be put to use scouting ahead of exploratory missions when things quieten down).

The Raven does pretty much tick all the boxes, but I was looking for something a little more Starfleet in it's appearance. I may just have to think up something, but if there were options already out there I thought I'd have a look at them first.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Is there a reason why you don’t think the Raven type looks ‘Starfleet’ enough? Cause it sure looks that way to me. And it was in production at least as far back as 2347.

Again another great ship to come out of the Battle of Wolf 359 we never got to see fully realised, unfortunately far too big. If there was a ship that looked something like her that was reduced by a factor of three then that would be ideal.

I might just have to create something that fits in with what I'm thinking, and the Springfield is a good base to start on.

It's just my own theory, but I think one the reasons why the Oberth-class stuck around for so long was that they were often used as scout ships between TSFS and TNG. They could be used for scientific research, tactical reconnaissance, and even limited search & rescue endeavors, IMO.

The Centaur? It was equivalent in size to a Jem'hadar fighter in it's first appearance, although scaled up later.

Or there's the "Sabrerunner" from Lower Decks.

I prefer to think of the small version and the large version as two different classes, since their surface details are very different.

That’s more of a 2370’s design than a 2350’s or earlier.

The old Hermes-class or Nelson-class scouts are not all that small with a Constitution-class saucer with a warp nacelle.
