While I admit freely I hated the color scheme used on the space shots in season one. You could still easily tell that the meshes were of vastly superior quality then anything done in Berman era tv or film for CGI work. And that holds true to every aspect of the physical production. From sets, to staging, to costumes, to props, to makeup, to the amount of extras, to stunt work, to the amount of original special fx. It's not even close. Now that doesn't mean you, or I, or anyone else must like or love any of the designs or final product. But to not recognize that much more work is put into everything makes it very difficult for one to give your opinion any credence.
agreed. The fleet battles looked so bad in discovery that I found a clip of the ending season 2 one on YouTube while looking for good fan artists and thought “this guy doesn’t understand a thing” before realizing it was from the actual show.Compare the ds9 dominion space battle with the space battles we see in discovery. Just because they put more pew pew crap on the screen doesn’t make it better. The discovery was to crammed and busy to even enjoy. The ds9 battles looked much more realistic in terms of movement.
but I do mind if people use those things to make the claim that the inconsistencies makes that specific show inferior to other Trek because of it.
See, here's the thing-I don't compare. Either it works in the context or it doesn't. DS9 did it one way and Discovery did it another way. I happened to enjoy both. It's not an either/or proposition of enjoyment. One is not better than the other.Compare the ds9 dominion space battle with the space battles we see in discovery. Excellent illustration. At some point in time technology will hit a point that changes will be minor and not affect the overall shape.![]()
This is a thing that is hard to deal with in a franchise that has mostly dealt with increases in technology over time. It wasn't a problem in Star Wars, or Foundation. Those series are set in periods of decline.
But sometimes, decline or not, technology just reaches a level of maturity and doesn't really change very much. A shuttle is a shuttle. A wagon is a wagon. After the invention of the derailleur, have bicycles gotten all that faster? Lighter, sure, but if you look at a bicycle frame, it's still the same diamond safety frame that came out in the 1890s.

Separated by 50 years. Might as well be 1000. Form follows function. It's ridiculous that anyone would get hung up over that, apart from the Terkyards Duo, who are extremely limited.
This is my way as well. I don't care much for the real world reasons nor do I want to just go "It's a plot hole!" I think it should be fun to come up with in universe rationales rather than just going after the production team.In my head I'm always trying to find in-universe ways to explain apparent inconsistencies with any Star Trek (it's fun!),

The DS9 battles suffer badly when you notice that only the foreground ships are firing. All the others fly around, swooping close to each other and... doing nothing.Compare the ds9 dominion space battle with the space battles we see in discovery. I would expect it to look more advanced. Star Trek is about our humanity, not an alternative timeline or a fantasy world in a galaxy far far away.I do compare because after TOS from the movies on to the Berman the look was pretty consistent to what came before. Now it’s video game style pew pew pew stuff. Star Wars dies it right and stays pretty consistent with the looks of space and the tech. They have modest advancements but don’t go over board for 3 decades. For Kurtzman everything in the past now looks more advanced then TNG and about the same as Picard and 900 years on the future STD. Terribly done.

Star Wars is a completely different beast and there is no comparison beyond spaceships. Superficial at best.
Compare all you want but Trek is different and always will be. I see no reason to compare.
Nope.Unfortunately in terms of storytelling it isn’t to different anymore. Kurtzman like his buddy abrams is really a Star Wars fan and you can see that I’m his Star Trek shows. Unfortunate really.
Nope.
Neither of your examples are 900 years.![]()
