2026 Comics Thread

I believe this to be the final nail in the Star Trek Legacy coffin.

Star Trek is a revolving title. It covers all the eras of Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager ... and the occasional combination thereof).

If Seven was getting her own title, they wouldn't have lumped it under the Star Trek umbrella title (Instead, it would've gotten the Star Trek: [insert name here] treatment). They'll give her a storyline and move on to something else when it's finished (Not only that, Raffi doesn't appear to be in this series. IDW is splitting them up into separate comics.)

Calling the line Star Trek: Legacy would've been a middle finger to the fans who've been campaigning for a streaming series of that name.

It's an honor that she's getting a storyline of her own. She and the E-G crew are THAT strong as characters.

Huh? They've literally just finished the previous Core Star Trek title last year after 30 issue with Sisko on the Theseus (tbh, would not be entir÷ly surprised if Raffi doesn't get command of the Theseus) and that was purely "Star Trek" no subtitle.

You've just proved my point.

I was searching for Star Trek comics on Amazon Kindle. They did The Original Series, The Kelvin films, DS9, and TNG under the Star Trek umbrella title.

Your previous post implied that this was the equivalent to Star Trek Unlimited, which this title isn't.

All of those have been separate series, and all but the Kelvin and Thesus series have had their own subtitle, and those really one series either, they're separate series that just happen to not have a subtitle. I follow the comics pretty closely, and from what I've seen the Kelvin series and the Theseus series have always been treated as separate unconnected series.

United will be a comic, too, then?

The first Star Trek full comic series where they never show the lead character's face?

I can kinda see @Danja 's point with this. I don't think they're saying that the series are necessarily connected, just that IDW reuses the base "Star Trek" line title for many different eras/continuities:
  • From 2011 to 2016 they used the title for the ongoing Kelvin Timeline comics
  • In 2022, they used the same title and restarted the numbering, and used it for the Sisko/Theseus stories, until 2025
  • And now, in 2026, they are reusing the same title again, and restarting the numbering, and will use it for the Seven/E-G series
And probably at some point after the Seven series ends, if they still have the license, they will reuse the "Star Trek" title, starting over at issue 1, for something else. For whatever reason, they seem to like having a comic series that is just called "Star Trek". (I personally don't like it, but I already complained about that in another thread, so I will just leave it at that. )

I don't recall them doing TOS or TNG under the base "Star Trek" title, without some kind of subtitle, though.

Oh, I thought they were saying it was one continuous anthology series.
Yeah, it drives me crazy when they keep just naming all of these series "Star Trek" with no subtitle, it's just gets really confusing.

That's nothing compared to the Marvel Universe where they often reboot a series back to a number 1 when it stops selling. There are twelve different series titled Captain Marvel. Back in the 90s, I was a huge fan of the Marvel animated universe and one day I wandered into a comic shop to check it out. It was a confusing mess of ongoing series, miniseries, spin-offs, prequels and one-shots with no apparent continuity and I couldn't figure out how all these series were connected to the animated versions I knew and loved. As a kid who grew up in the 90s, I believed the animated shows were THE Marvel Universe, so of course the comics had to be connected somehow. Little did I know, the comics were an entirely separate continuity that stretched all the way back to 1939.

Oh yeah, it drives me crazy trying to figure out what order the different runs of the different Marvel different characters go in. I've probably spent hours looking through the different Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Fantastic Four series trying to figure out what order to read them in.

DC does it too.

A few years ago, they rebooted all their main titles (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, etc.) back to issue #1.

Heck, sometimes I have trouble even with the read-order of a single title. With all of the re-starts and inbetween minis, it can sometiems be a real pain.

If it is, then it's the death-knell for the hope of having a live-action series with Bakula.
That was never going to happen regardless.

IDW has never done an ongoing TOS or TNG comic, though. (I think Year Four may have been announced as one, but ended up as two miniseries.)

Wait, no, there was Year Five. It does seem a bit surprising that that wasn't just "Star Trek" but I guess the "Year Five" branding was a nice hook.

My favorite example of this is when Marvel did a line-wide reset to #1s in 2015, meaning that Unbeatable Squirrel Girl was reset after just eight issues. This resulted in the amazing cover tagline "ONLY OUR SECOND #1 SO FAR THIS YEAR."

They do but they're not quite as bad as Marvel, I think most of the core titles have pretty much stuck to the same numbering since Rebirth, while most of the Marvel titles have started their numbering over at least 3 or 4 times since then.

I could be wrong, but I believe Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash have all gone back to #1 again after Rebirth.

The Federation’s delegates have gathered. The Babel conference is on. Together, they aim to save Starfleet and bring peace to all quadrants. But while Captain Sato and the crew of the U.S.S. Omega have only experienced the passage of time as four months within their transwarp bubble, for the rest of the galaxy, it’s been 23 years.
For 23 years, the delegates have been left to their own devices, to stew in their own machinations and to make new allegiances…and while the U.S.S. Omega may have brought them all together, the Burn has forced them apart. Not all want to broker peace, and someone who was once closest to Starfleet may become its greatest adversary…

the writing in Homecoming isn't amazing, and full of weird errors

the Doctor called the rebellious 8472 by their name without ever hearing it, and for some reason referred to Seven as 'Nine'

Also the cover(?) art for the upcoming SFA comic has them 23rd Century Discovery EV suits

Nine is the name of one of the newly rescued drones. That’s who that line is referring to.
